A goalkeeper died after being hit by a ball in the chest during a futsal match during the 2025 Independence Day games on Monday night (1).
The victim, identified only as Édson, suffered a strong impact to the chest while saving a penalty kick. After the save, he walked a few meters across the court but collapsed shortly afterward.
First responders provided first aid at the scene, and the athlete was taken to São Miguel Hospital, but did not survive. The cause of death is under investigation.
