The only movie which truly fucked up my day was A Serbian Film. Don't. Just... don't.
Antichrist with Willem Dafoe was pretty fucking wild.
I 100% agree with you when it comes to body horror, like blood and guts horror. I absolutely agree that's played out there is nothing to be even scared of with those movies. The horror movies that I find disturbing are the atmospheric horror ones. The ones that have aspects that are unsettling at a level that you're not even sure what's bothering you you just know that there's something very wrong. It's the subsurface horror, the abstract horror. I've been well over the blood and guts horror for quite some time. I go for things that mess with your psyche...like Hereditary. The ones that are deeply unsettling and creep you out.Antichrist was certainly good for its originality. Serbian Fim was well overrated, and grasped desperately at shock value alone.
I am jaded by all horror movies now after being on this site.
Fantasy splatter fests, with predictable storylines just don't cut it anymore when compared to the real thing.
Hereditary, in my opinion, is far and away the best atmospheric horror I have seen.I 100% agree with you when it comes to body horror, like blood and guts horror. You just won a boatload of brownie points with me! Too many people think "horror movie" means blood and guts. True horror transcends the blood and guts and creates an atmosphere that settles cold and deep into your bones and makes you want to turn all the lights on in the house😁.Hereditary, in my opinion, is far and away the best atmospheric horror I have seen.
The Witch, and Lake Mungo are very good too.
I will add just a little PSA... and I know this is going to make me sound super old ...but that's okay. Many of us have become so accustomed to watching TV and movies while simultaneously scrolling on our phones and while much of the time it's not an issue, there are certain times where it actually detracts from the full experience of the movie or show that you're watching.Hey Goregrish Fam! (Yes I said it). So...this is going to be a somewhat long post, I apologize in advance.
As I've mentioned before... I'm new here to GG. I've had some time to think tonight... after my redneck neighbors we're done setting off their M80s... and I decided that I wanted to make this post.
Somebody asked me recently what brought me to this site. I have gone through all the other Gore sites and I settled on this one. I really like the interactive atmosphere of this site. And before any of you cyber lynch me just hear me out 🤣.
I would like to start a thread on horror movies and horror cinema in general. I think many of us are here because we seek stimulation. Many of us who have been through things in our life whether it's childhood trauma, combat trauma, or ADD /ADHD... or all of the above ( as with me being a Marine Corps veteran).. it takes a little bit extra for us to feel something.
We've become accustomed to being numb to so much that it takes a site like this to make us feel something. And that's okay! But I think that there's a correlation between the content on this site and a love for horror movies! So I'd like to open up a discussion regarding horror movies. Many of you might be rolling your eyes right now and that's fine! But I thought I would take a chance and make this post.
The subject of the discussion is Horror Movies... The good, the bad, and the utterly disturbing. I am a dyed in the wool cinephile (a person with a passionate interest in cinema, film theory, and film criticism).
I absolutely adore horror movies. I think the love of horror movies falls right in line with the love of Gore. So I will put this question to you..my fellow movie fans; what are some of the horror movies that you either love, hate, or will never watch again because of how viscerally disturbing they were.. or just your thoughts on horror movies that fall here there and everywhere in between the aforementioned topics.
Like I said, many of you will read this and want to proverbially stone me to death because of how long this post is, or because you might find it mundane/gay compared to general Gore subject matter. I get it ...and if you want to say something mean/punishing as a result of it then that's okay I welcome it...come at me GG😆.
But I'm not scared of taking a chance and going out on a limb. I like this site and I wanted to do something to participate more actively. I'll post a follow-up question as a start to a horror movie centric discussion
OHHHHJH myyyyy god!!! UH-mazing amazing amazing ideas!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰I would love to see Ari Aster do a prequel to Hereditary, exploring the Ellen and Joan story and the history of the coven. There are so many unanswered questions in this movie.
I loved Blair Witch too, and most of the Paranormal Activity franchise.
And I completely agree re Blair Witch...it is the OG of found footage movies. And speaking as somebody who has watched countless found footage movies, I can 100% state that The Blair Witch is the all-time... hands down ...best found footage movie. Every other one after it tried to do too much and removed the magical aspect that made it feel like a "real person recording".OHHHHJH myyyyy god!!! UH-mazing amazing amazing ideas!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
True dat...more like a rare dirty pebble😁I wouldn't say its a gem... 😅
I have the newly remastered version of no. 1. Fucking awesome. Awesome date night movie for a certain type of girl. That would be Lynn, in my case.So I'll start by mentioning two movies.
1. Cannibal Holocaust - I will not be watching this again. Not because of rhe murder and mayhem to humans, but because of the animals that were actually killed during the filming. I can watch people being killed all day long but I'm a big sissy when it comes to animals being killed and this is one of the only movies that I've watched were they actually kill animals in the filming of it.
2. Skinnamarink - I think I would watch this again but it was so deeply unsettling and terrifying on a whole different level. People either hate it or love it but this is one of those movies where to really experience it truly you have to put your phone down and be fully immersed in it with all the lights off and it will take you back to a place when you were 5 years old in your room in the dark or trying to find your way down a dark hallway to the bathroom and seeing things in the dark that you swear were actually there. It evokes such a visceral childlike terror. It's exhilarating but also terrifying. But to truly experience it you have to be fully present not looking at your phone and you have to watch it at night with the lights off and the volume up to here all of the ambient sounds that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
Sic opened this group long years agoThis Group will be right down ur alley
Hey! I love the paranormal movies also! The Shining for sure is a classic! I've lost count of how many times I've watched it.welcome to the site, btw.
im more into paranormal type stuff. because thats some real shit to think about.
but movies like the shining were good.
now with a.i. being out there,im sure the gore in movies will be way better than before.
p.s. and someone asked me to ask you to post nudes of yourself if your a female
its more of a dare really
Recently saw Weapons. Great fucking horror film, a new twist on witchcraft.
Coherence was a great movie, but it really deserved a better cast and a larger budget. The premise and mindfuckery compensated for the latter.
Not quite horror in the traditional sense, but the ending paid off. The Wave:
And here's another film with Justin Long in it that turned out better than I thought it would.
