Sump is correct. A sump is a pit or trench dug into the floor of a basement or somewhere lower than ground level to prevent flooding. It's a deeper section for water to drain down into and run off or be pumped out. A good section of town where I grew up had a lot of wet land. All the houses around there had a sump in the basement.
