No it sucks, really it sucks. Though most of todays music sucks! No exceptions country pop rock metal death metal etc, it all sucks! Why I am stuck from late 60's to late 90's everything else sucks huge !

It really depends, because the genre of metal is extremely diverse. Though black metal is my favorite genre, I wouldn’t start off listening to it considering most of it sounds like actual shit to fresh ears. I would start with bands like Slipknot, Slayer, and Metallica. I feel their music is enjoyable for almost anyone. You can then branch off from there.

Like someone said before me, it really depends on your personal taste. I think a lot of modern metal sucks cock but one of my favorite subgenres is grindcore which sounds like complete dogshit on purpose. I also would recommend starting with classic, consumable bands like Metallica, Megadeth, etc.. There are lots of subgenres for you to explore once you get more of a feel for it. Hair metal is for fags though.
