Blame the Mexican vaqueros of the 1800s for adding bull riding to cowboying skills challenges. Breaking horses, barrel races, and roping cattle's definitely hard work & takes skill so I can see how competitions started but I don't think they really ever have to ride bulls while working or moving a herd so, I guess that's why bronc-ing seems just stupid to me. Also, it makes enforcing rights for humane animal treatment harder legally I would imagine.
