footprints: a woman terrorized by dreams of an astronaut being left behind on the moon visits a seaside town where the inhabitants know more about her than she does herself. (a beautifully moody giallo with a mystery that slowly unfolds like the blossom of a flower. the weird sci-fi elements of the plot and the strong performance from the lead elevate it to a classic of the genre. the ending sticks with you long after.)

The nun. France, 1966.
6/10
Not the pile of shit people to stupid to read reviews of are watching now.
A young woman is sent to a convent against her will.
Based a novel by Denis Diderot, died 1768. It's 2.5 hours long and is gives a not to flattering view of religious life.
It wasn't boring but the plot was fairly oppressive, social standing and class are explained at the start so you are aware as the viewer that if Suzanne (the nun) gets out there'll be no 'happy ending' for her. And there isn't.
It goes thru a series of events involving a lawyer, a court hearing, three different mother superiors and a priest that helps her near the end. But there is still a sense of forboding doom about the whole thing.
A interesting film that hammers home certain points about life in general.

perfect blue: a former pop star tries her hand at acting to further her career, unaware of the desperate lengths her most deranged fan will go to. (it still holds up after twenty years, like any true classic. as beautiful as it is violent, this animated psychological thriller about the cost of fame blurs the lines of fantasy and reality.)

I'd never heard of this but it sounds pretty interesting. I dont watch a lot of foreign films not because I dislike reading but because it's hard to watch the movie and read the subtitles at the same time. I feel like I miss out on a lot. That being said, I cant stand anything dubbed into english. Drives me crazy and instantly turns the movie into a comedy

the beyond: a woman inherits a hotel that just so happens to be built on one of the seven gateways to hell. (lucio fulci's surreal, nonsensical ode to the occult is a brutal masterpiece. if you like your italian horror extra artsy with a side of gory ghouls, animal attacks, and killer arachnids, you could do much worse than this violent fever dream.)

I can relate to that.
I saw this the torrent site YIFY, (there are alot of pop ups) i'd never heard of it untill i saw it uploaded.
The main thing with subtitles is how much is being spoken and are they any good. Iv watched Salo twice and found it hard going, there are long dialouges and when the 'storytellers' start it is hard to keep up. Compare that to The Raid. The Indonesian movie, and there's dialouge, but it soon gives way to action. The Horde is a good example of overdub stupidity.
Iv watched a couple of times and really enjoyed it, the violence outweighs the cringe-worthy overdubbing.
The only other option is to wait for the 'remake'. Martyrs is a horror classic, but the american remake was a complete failure.
Train to Busan is another horror classic getting a remake, James Wan is producing it, but the still won't count for shit, in my books anyway. The general consensus with that one is, READ THE FUCKING SUBTITLES!!! it's not that bad considering it's all on a train.
The horde. 9/10

The horde looks awesome. I'm gonna have to check that out. I normally dont like zombie movies cuz a lot of them are pretty cheesy but that trailer looks pretty cool. Thanks!

Black '47. Ireland. 2018.
8.5/10
Set in the spud famine of 1847, a Irish solider comes back from fighting for the British in Afghanistan. It's a 'revenge' film set in a real historical time. Because of the use of one-shot-muskets there is a distinct lack of 'bullets flying'.The film is quiet and simple, but builds to a quiet but brutal ending.

Don't worry, he won't get far on foot. 2018 Dir. Gus Van Sant
4/10
Bio-pic of a paralyzed cartoonist John Callahan’s autobiography. Joaquin Phoenix as John, with Jonah Hill.
Hill is good as the softly spoken AA sponsor and Phoenix as the wheelchair bound cartoonist. I was bored by the 45 min mark and started hitting off the FF button, the bulk of the story was 'John' becoming a cartoonist and his therapy sessions in AA that became a drawn out process.
Last years You Were Never Really Here also produced by Amazon was a much better.

Actually pretty good :tu:

housewife: a troubled woman visits a doomsday cult to cope with the ghosts of her past. (this sensual and surreal lovecraftian nightmare uses astral projection to address family trauma. striking visuals of frozen snowscapes and hazy dreamworlds abound in this love letter to the bizarre.)

Nightmare of elm st. 1984.
8/10
Was doing some drawings and had this one in the background. Still good film.

Inferno. 1980
3/10 (fell asleep)
Dario Argento film. One of The Three Mothers trilogy. The 1st was Suspiria, i watched that last year and felt it didn't really live up to the hype.
This one i fell asleep near the end of. It's not colourful as Sus, but has the Argento 'style' some scenes are really good, but it drags after the hour mark.

Don't make em like they used to, unless it's a foreign film. Hollywood or Paedowood is generic and boring and never strays from the same repeteive crap.

Hotel Artemis. 2018
2/10
By the look of the trailer i 'thought' it might be low budget action with a decent cast, the idea seems to be taken straight from the John Wick films. A safe house hotel where crims can go.
The J.W. films were diet-light on plot but at least they entertained with alot of action.
Not this. It's really just a drama, and not a very convincing one. Again got to the 45 min mark and hit the FF button.
