First feature from Matthew Holness who wrote and directed it.
It does show in a lack of dialouge in some parts, actors and the scenes are long. Strange movie that was kinda hard to follow but interesting all the same. A puppeteer come home with a strange looking puppert that may or may not be alive.

8/10.Reminded me a bit of 'Wag the dog.' but this had alot more players, and the media were the ones running things.Funny and a bit sad but reflects the nature of the 'society'

It's free HBO weekend, what didn't I watch?
Caught up on all the Marvel and DC movies, which I eat up like candy. Justice League, wonder woman (fantastic) Man of Steel (also great)
Watched Pacific Rim Uprising (entertaining, but not near as good as PR)
War for the Planet of the Apes (so bad I didn't finish)
Dunkirk (slow but entertaining )
The IT remake (loved it)

Oh gawd, I finished the third Planet of the Apes movie. What the fuck was I thinking? Most pathetic end to a movie since The Day After Tomorrow, that climate change pile of shit. If the words "I'll never get that 45 minutes of my life back" ever had meaning, it's now.

I'm gonna watch The Post next, before free HBO runs out. Kill me now.

Bill Murray does Hunter S. Thomson.
The first film biography of Hunter S Thomson portrayed by Bill Murray, with his lawyer by Peter Boyle. I couldn't really watch it with thinking of Fear and Loathing by Terry Gilliam. It was funny in parts but didn't fully embrace the madness and actually show Hunter trashed on drugs. The film jumped ahead a few years but overall was faithfull to the man.
Fear & L. is much better film simply because of the excess and it stuck to the book.

Struggling writer, old hitman.
A funny movie about a young bloke who signs his own death warrent because he has failed to kill himself. Kinda predictable, but amusing with some LOL moments. A solid black comedy about life and death. Not really a film i'd watch again. But i found myself laughing alot.

A horny priest and a bunch of fucked up nuns.
Oliver Reed and Vannesa Redgrave do some solid acting in the film by Ken Russell. A piece at the start says its based on true events and figures. A full on drama with lots of politics and religion wound in together. The sets, costumes and screenplay are pretty good and although its now over 40 years old, it's a good reminder of how things were.

Bullying=sadistic revenge.

A film that was strong on a school bullying/revenge theme. The acting was a little subpar but quite believable enough. The gore effects were mostly practical and pretty good. The CGI that was in the film, was mostly falling snow, fire, and some blood. All nicely done, which validates my criticism of CGI bullshit blockbusters that rely on effects over plot.
The story itself unwinds as it goes, it seems simple at the start, girl is picked on, gets revenge one person at a time. But as it continues it becomes more multi layered.
Fans of asian cinema or just subtitled movies should give it a watch, i went in without watching the trailer and was thankful for it.

Lizzie. 2018.

Iv never read a full case study of the Borden murders, but iv seen the crime scene photos, read summarys and watched The Lizzie Borden Chronicles starring Christina Ricci. Entertaining, but entirely fictional.
This film goes over the 6 months before the murders. It presents an account of what probably happened.
It builds slowly, skips the murders, but revisits them in flashback. The ending has a series of short written statements that detail where everyone ended up. It's not a 'exciting' movie, but would fall solidly as a drama, with aspects of a thriller during the murders.

Drawing up a little sketch i put D.B.H. on for something to listen to and sorta watch. I finished what i wanted at the end of the film and even thou i haven't seen it since i first watched it in a cinema, it still was amusing.
One thing that was noticable was the limited use of effects.
In the early '90s 'green screen' could only be applied to little parts, so it was more of a novelty that added to the film instead of making up whole scenes. The film as a whole is simple but funny with alot of practical effects and sets. If it hadn't been made back then, there is no way it would be considered today.

A ever decreasing pile of shit anthology film.
I don't mind some of the Cohen bros films, but this one is has ever decreasing returns.
Starts of good enough with the singing cowboy, then one by one the stories get longer and crappier. After the traveling sideshow story, i got bored and started hitting the FF button. By the time the last set entirely in a stagecoach started i FFwd through the entire thing and didn't give a shit. Why did i watch it? It was reccomended to me. I got a copy of someone else. Glad i didn't waste my broadband.

Journey's End (2018)

Good acting and effects but the plot was very slow to get going and turned out to be confusing, stupid and made no sense at the end.

It's too bad because with the scenery, the props, the effects and good actors they could have made a really good movie out of this with things happening sooner and perhaps a different plot and a few dead Huns.

Not a bad film, but strange. The plot was pretty strange and by the 1 hour 15 mark of a 1:45min running time, i had kinda lost interest.
A bloke and his assisant bury the dead, then kill them again when they rise up after 7 days, he 'falls in love with one corpse'.
It doesn't end there and kinda drifts which made hit FF at 75 min.
The angles of the scenes and effects used were interesting so it wasn't a waste of time.
Not really for everyone and definitly a one-time-watch that i probably wont remember to much.
