movies Last Movie You Watched..

I remember seeing this movie for the first time shortly after the premiere
This movie can be said to be a real thriller
Seriously thoughtful about the movie after I watching it first time, very realistic and as cruel as life itself

Riders of justice. 2020. Denmark.
10/10
Soldiers revenge for his dead wife.
A terrorist attack on board a train leads to a meeting with a survivor and the military husband of the woman who he gave up his seat for.
From there they target a local gang suspected of carring out the bombing.
Mads Mikkelsen stars as the widower in what is an action drama with a little bit of comedy. The core cast is a unlikely trio of computer nerds that can get the info they need with Mads character doing the killing. Simple idea that is built upon with each of the characters having there own flaws and strengths. The violence when it happens is explosive, simple and violent.
Overall the story is nothing really new, but the naivety of the trio played off the intensity of the soldier with the lies they have to keep up for the sake of the daughter make for good drama.

The sting. 1973.
8/10
Two cons con a crime boss.
Good crime thriller starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Robert Shaw. The set up is marked with a series of images at certain points. Not only does it involve the target but also a policeman. Not too many surprises but entertaining.

Somewhat gory, recommend!

Synopsis

JUSTICE IS BLIND. SO IS VENGENCE.

Bruno Hamel is a thirty eight year old surgeon. He lives in Drummondville with his wife Sylvie, and their eight year-old daughter Jasmine. Like many happy people, he is leading an uneventful life until a beautiful fall afternoon, when his daughter is raped and murdered. From then on, the world of the Hamel family collapses. When the murderer is arrested, a terrible project germinates in Bruno’s darkened mind. He plans to capture the “monster” and make him pay for his crime. The day the murderer appears in Court, Hamel, who had prepared his plan in great detail, kidnaps the monster and later sends the police a brief message stating that the rapist and murderer of his daughter was going to be tortured for 7 days and then executed. Once this task accomplished, he will then give himself up. ×

4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days. Romania. 2012
8/10
A young lady has to get an abortion.
Intense drama about dealing with a unwanted pregnancy while living in Romania in what would have the early '80's. Abortion is illegal and contraception is pretty much non exsistent.
As a result a young lady, aided by her friend have to arrange a termination. The film is bleak and without a soundtrack. The settings are mostly colourless. The camera lingers while people have long converstations. None of these are really very happy affairs, except for an extended birthday party scene. The film doesn't take a position on either side of the abortion debate, it just shows what it was like for people in a certain situation at a certain time. Not a pleasent watch but worth it.
Having seen a range of films from eastern Europe, i think the way people shit on A Serbian Film is entirely because they don't watch films from that region and therefore have no appreciation of the style or the conditions that they lived thru.

Begletsy (Fugitives) 2014. Russia.
4/10
Escaped convict on the run.
A convict on the run from bounty hunters teams up with a mute woman.
Formula driven 'action/drama' about a bloke on the run who teams up with a woman and they pck off their pursuers one by one.
Interesting for the fact that it provived a little historical context about the situation at the turn of the 20th century but quickly fell into a by the numbers fugitive film. By the one hour point i reached for the remote and didn't care about the moral at the end.

Charley Varrick and The Laughing Policeman ~ Walter Matthau double bill ~ Entertaining and intriguing seeing a more serious side to Matthau. Overall 8/10 for both.

Nobody. 2021.
2/10
John Wick without John Wick.
A ex serviceman goes up against a mob of Russians.
The film is basicly the first and only decent film in the 'John Wick' series. I didn't sit and actually watch it, i went straight to the 'action' scenes.
Violent and kinda funny with the music or slo motion that was over the top. But they weren't the extended and well filmed scenes that J.W. has.
Christopher Loyd is the father, and of course, there is a massive shootout at the end with him gingerly wandering around with multiple shotguns.
Watchable, but entirely forgetable.

Pieta. 2013. South Korea.
9/10
A loan shark debt collecter meets his mother, or so he thinks.
Brutal tactics of a debt collecter lead a woman to reveal herself as his mother, abandoned when he was born, she is consistantly there and slowly begins to make him see the error of his ways and what it means to be loved.
Slow and unrelenting in it's portrayal of grinding poverty and the debt people put on themselves and the loved ones who have to pick up the pieces or endure the aftermath.
A excellent drama, but not easy viewing.

A Tanú. (The Witness.) Hungary. 1969.
7/10
A simple man caught up in the ruling regime.
József Pelikán is caught for the crime of killing a pig. From there he's elevated to certain positions in the bureaucracy which end in him giving evidence against his old friend, a government minister, who accidently showed the cops the slaughted pig.
The film was unreleased for ten years due the 'bumbling' nature of the regime as they force the main character to memorize his evidence.
Dry humour makes it a funny but kinda dull and confusing watch.

Starring Amanda Wyss aka Freddy Krueger's first ever victim and she really is awesome here. The dude playing the Da should get an award too. One hateful despicable mofo in every way. Blurs the lines of reality unreality so well. 8/10
