A man called Ove.
8/10
Simple comedy/drama about a older man whose is living alone and misses his wife.
Nice film that could be quite a laugh for few minutes before something happens that brings a real sadness to it. It was a fine balance that worked well. The flashbacks in it are quite long scenes that help show the love he had for his wife and what they went thru in their lives together. When back in the present his neighbours try to help him which is humourus as Ove is pretty grumpy.
Slow, but steady and thoughtful.

Elena. 2011. Russia.
7/10
A older woman living with a even older rich man learns she will get nothing when he dies.
From the director of Leviation and Loveless, another interesting film about relationships. The main character looks after him and helps her adult son and his family get by. He has a adult daughter of his own who only shows up when she needs money.
Slow and thoughtful with a long scenes but not quite the tension the other films had but a very similar style.

Time Bandits. 1981.
7/10
A group of midgets and young boy travel thru time stealing treasure.
Action surreal comedy written by Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin. A simple beginning escalates into a quite a epic adventure as a group of bandits try and escape from the 'supreme being' whose map they are using to travel time. The sets are fantasic and as the film progresses it gets stranger but doesn't lose it entertaining vibe.

Elite squad.
9/10
The elite police in Brazil.
A full on action film that has a very gritty realism to it. The story centers on a central cast of characters, a captain who wants to leave the force to be with his family and two new additions to the force. One of them gets killed and his friend steps up to find the killer.
It shows the corruption at a local level and the fact the cops are stepping on each to get the most bribe money.
Complicating things are the people outside the slums that buy the drugs and protest the police killings. Overall a good film that lays out the cycle of violence and just how hard it would be to stop it.

Ice Road.
Liam Neeson. A mine in winnipeg alaska turned off the methane gas detectors and paid the workers a whopping extra $100 per month to keep quiet. $1200 a year extra to possibly die from gas.
So there a gas explosion, miners are trapped, and they need drivers to take a thing to get rid of the gas and save the miners lives. On a ice road. The bosses of the mine don't want it to arrive so kill laurance Fishburn and try to kill the others. Liams brother who suffered a retardation injury in Iraq also dies.
They deliver the thing, lives are saved, Liam punches the boss then buys a Kensworth as it was his brothers dream.
It was watchable but not one to watch more than once.
I have seen others but I can't remember them.
Oh yeah, office space. Jennifer anniston and others are in it. I enjoyed it until I stopped paying attention then it ended. So probably OK.

Ice Road......Liam Neeson.
Does he say....

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you shipped. If you are looking for FedEx, I can tell you I don't drive for them. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career behind the wheel. Skills that make me a very good driver for people like you. If you let my my rig haul your cargo, that'll be the end of it. I won't double invoice you, I will not deliver your cargo to the wrong address. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will tell you to fuck off & use DHL next time.

Black coal, thin ice. 2015. China.
6/10
Crime drama about a two cops and then trying to catch a serial killer.
As simple as that reads it soon becomes clear that is not quite the main plot of the film. Really beautifully filmed the main emphasis is one of the cops and the relationship he forms with a woman who is the main suspect. Where its filmed shows China in winter with a gritty urban setting in the middle of winter.

Rouruni Kenshin 1 & 2. Samurai stuff. Main dude was a sell sword called Battousi who now has a rear blade sword, meaning the sharp bit is at the back so it's a no kill sword as he no longer wants to kill. I didn't mind it. Everything looks very good, costumes etc and scenary.
I'm now starting season 1 episode 1 of the walking dead which is new to Disney+.
The first few seasons were the best.
