Free Guy. 2021.
4/10
'Guy' in the online game 'Free City' starts to deviate from the usual way of doing things and then goes on to save the day.
Interesting film that takes the idea of the original Westworld film and develops it. With a over indulgence of CGI. Ryan Reynolds stars in the film with his usual funny mannerisms, just not as Deadpool. There is a good plot but it was very much like Deadpool meets Ready Player One.
Entertaining for the first 45 mins, then i slowly clicked thru little bits and then thru the entire ending.

Sinkhole 2021. South Korea.
4/10
An apartment building falls into a sinkhole after alot of rain.
By the director of The Tower, Sinkhole is another comedy/drama/disaster film. It has the campy style of humour but takes quite a while for the main action to start. The effects are decent enough but by the fifty minute mark the action and drama were only just beginning. Clicked thru the rest of the film. Some dramatic moments but nothing special.

The Green Knight. 2021.
5/10
A young knight make a deal with a green knight.
Produced by A24 studio it has quite a surreal quality to it. The visuals are well crafted but the story is slow and pretty simple. Lost interest by the one hour twenty mark.
Flicked thru to the end.

The power of the dog. 2121. Dir. Jane Campion.
9/10
Two ranch owner brothers deal with the marriage of one of them and the repressed feelings of the other.
Excellent slow burn drama that has both visually impressive scenery from southern New Zealand and a tense but compassionate storyline.
Benedict Cumberbatch is a standout, but doesn't outshine his fellow actors. Just over two hours, the film begins slowly and lets the viewer imagine what might happen before subverting them as it goes along. Wide scenes of barren landscapes fit naturally with the interior of the house.

Bone tomahawk. 2015.
4/10.
Four man search party going looking a missing deputy and a doctors wife.
Interesting 'western' that has moments of violence and long scenes of conversation. The bulk of the film is the four men traveling and talking. Little things happen but it failed to maintain any sense of tension. At the 90 min mark of a 2 hour film was when the encountered the enemy and although it was brutal and quick, it faded just as fast. There was a element of horror but it felt tacked on to a weak film overall.

Jin. 2013. Turkey.
6/10
A young kurdish girl slips away from her group of fighters to try and find a quieter life.
Mostly quiet film that solely centers on Jin, who with no documents tries to navigate the area and find a simpler life. Slow but interesting, at least for the first hour, after that i just clicked thru it. Her travels see her constantly weary of people, men more so. The film doesn't portray the kurd or turkish fighters in negative light, they are simply two different sides of the same coin.
Trailer has no english subtitles.
