A comet is going to crash into earth and wipe out humanity. A family is reunited in the last hours and instead of being a reflective time together. It decends into violence and reprisals.
Brutal black comedy that is dialogue heavy with a small cast in a limited setting. The plot has alot of humour sharply contrasted with revenge style violence. Drags a little in parts, but a chillingly funny watch.

As someone with bad anxiety I tend to rewatch movies I've seen before. If I do watch something from start to finish it's because I caught the last half while flipping through the channels, enjoyed it and it was on again later. One is coming on in a few minutes, Wexford Plaza, about a dumpy but sexy girl working nights in a mall. Moves kinda slow, doubt I'll watch the whole thing but I'm curious how it starts.

Apex. 2021.
Unrateable pile of shit.
Bruce Willis co stars in this pile of garbage about a 'convict' set loose on a island to be hunted by rich idiots.
I put this film on just to see what it was like while i was doing a sketch.
Similar idea to a slew of other films, notably, 'Hard Target'-Jean Claude Van Damme, 'Surviving the game'-Rutger Hauer and Ice T. As old as those films are their still way ahead of this cgi-hologram shit fest. Willis really doesn't doing anything. He literally hides behind trees or bushes and when he really has to, runs a few feet before uttering some corny line. The hunters have most of the dialogue but that is spent mostly insulting each other. How do they die?. Not by Bruce, he watches as the kill each other.
Unbelievable in the extreme and sad to see a icon that gave us some classic action films reduced to a bumbling has been.

A childless couple adopt a mutant sheep.
Slow burn drama with slight elements of horror that come to surface late in the film. From the studio A24 which is marking itself out as a competent creator of unsettling films.
A core cast of 4 characters, for most of the film, it uses images and tension to create a atmosphere of unease and sympathy. Simple plot that for me got a little bit boring at the one hour twenty mark with twenty five minutes to go. The ending was a surprise but by that stage, even thou it wasn't it felt kinda tacked on.

Finch 4/10 A big disappointment from Tom Hanks it’s after some kind of apocalypse and Finch is slowly dying from radiation poisoning so he builds a robot to care for his little dog after he dies, the dog is the best thing in the movie the robot the biggest disappointment there’s a huge radioactive storm on the way so they have to get out of Dodge real quick so it’s a road movie where just about nothing happens. Tom suits up and he and the robot go out to find supplies they break into an old cinema for food and he finds some pop corn takes the robot outside and puts some corn on a hub cap where it pops because of the radiation heat and freaks the robot a bit. They go back to the truck and drive on ? eh ? They see a cars lights on the road so we’re going to get some action yay the robot pushes the truck under a bridge and the car drives away ? Avoid this one it’s shit.
I liked it. I thought finch was adorable and I want one.

i heard it was a good flick. the rock and gal were promoting it lastnite on a latenite talk show.
It isn't. It really isn't.
The power of the dog. 2121. Dir. Jane Campion.
9/10
Two ranch owner brothers deal with the marriage of one of them and the repressed feelings of the other.
Excellent slow burn drama that has both visually impressive scenery from southern New Zealand and a tense but compassionate storyline.
Benedict Cumberbatch is a standout, but doesn't outshine his fellow actors. Just over two hours, the film begins slowly and lets the viewer imagine what might happen before subverting them as it goes along. Wide scenes of barren landscapes fit naturally with the interior of the house.

you gave this a 9/10? while it wasn't dog shit (no pun intended) it wasn't worthy of a 9 IMO....maybe a 6/10

Jodorowsky's dune. 2013.
8/10
Doco about a film that was never made.
Alejandro Jodorowsky set out to make 'Dune' in the '70's. This doco lets him and the group of people who he hired at the time, with other relevent directors from later on explain why and how things went soo wrong.
Entertaining film that doesn't drag and is very upbeat about a two year project that didn't get done. Debatable wether as a film it could have been created, but the influence it had on the careers of some of the people involved and in general is undisputed.

The fool. 2014. Russia.

A city worker gets a call to a burst pipe in a rundown occupied building. Realizing it will collapse he tries to the relevant departments to help.
From the writer/director of The Major, a russian film that dealt with police corruption, this one looks at the issue of city council inactivity and bribes. Quick to establish the main characters and the situation, it becomes mired down in the 'how do we deal with this and who takes the blame' situation.
The bleak harshness of the residents who live in the crumbling building contrasts with the department heads and mayor who are at a lavish party.
Privately they all have to acknowledge their own failings, but it soon becomes apparent that things will go on.
Good film about a bloke trying to do the 'right thing'.

The Innocents. 2021. Norway.

A group of young kids have supernatural powers and one of them goes in a dark direction causing the others to try and stop him.
From the writer of Thelma (2017), a similar type of film that deals with the development of supernatural powers, but in a late teen. These kids are all about aged 9 except the sister of one of the girls who is retarded and about 14-15. The film slowly sets up the friendship between them all and to what extent their 'powers' are at.
The film is a slow burn with no 'action' scenes and nice steady building of dread. Very effective at showing that the older girl knows whats going on, but is unable to communicate and the others in their reluctance to seek help from adults.

Delicious. 2021.

A sacked chef opens a restaurant.
Light but nice drama about a chef who cooks for a duke and gets fired, he then goes on to meet a older woman and with her help opens a restaurant, the first in France.
Features alot of cooking but with a equal amount of plot. Colourful in some parts and nicely lit with candles in others. Small cast with a simple setting and the odd funny moment but nothing too outrageous.
It moves quickly so some of what happens feels a bit railroaded but just a nice simple feel good film.

Mission possible. 2021. South Korea.

Spy action comedy.
A chinese spy is given an assignment of taking down a arms dealer and teams up with who she thinks is her contact but is a south korean P.I.
Campy action flick that was kinda casual with the plot. Funny as they learn to work together. The tone changes after the halfway point and becomes a little more serious but still retains a 'silly factor'. Entertaining but very forgettable.
