The aircraft was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, Air India flight AI171, which took off from Ahmedabad Airport at 1.38pm local time on Thursday.
According to flight tracking website Flightrader, the aircraft had reached a height of 625ft before crashing. Its last signal was received less than a minute after take off.
All crew and passengers have been confirmed dead. The injured were among staff and families in the doctors' building.
