Funny Prevention Is The Key

Don't give them money. Give them a sandwich and watch their hearts drop.
ya once a homeless person in my town asked me for money for food
i had just come out of a grocery store
i reached in my bag and handed him an apple and a box of granola bars
he said to my face "what am i supposed to do with this?"

I'd have taken them back and said, "Never mind!" Although, I wouldn't have given him anything to begin with. I never carry cash either.

Similar story...in a Mc Donald's in Sa on Francisco years ago and this homeless dude says can I give him money for food. Stupidly I hand him a few dollars. He looks at me, shuffles a little thsn leaves the queue and walks out of the joint. That was the last time I fell for the scam.

I had homeless people refuse food several times. I stopped trying to help them years ago.
The thing is they can get 3 meals a day from shelters for nothing. They need cash not always necessarily for alcohol or drugs, but for bus fares, and all othe other stuff that the shelters don't hand out for free. I offer to take them to the convenience store to get what they need from time to time if they seem approachable & genuine

You are a good person. I'm somewhat jaded.

We get a lotta train hoppers around my steel mill property, it's very close to a rail hub. I'm always asking the dudes if they wanna work for a few months in the labor pool, no questions asked. Some take up the offer, others act like I'm an asshole for chasing them off the property.

I help once in a while. I know it's most likely not going to what they said they needed it for, that's on them. It's not about that, it's about the intent. I did the "right thing" helping someone. I can't allow the thought of what they might do to determine my actions. I will help or not because I decided that's what I'm doing. If I see they lied, I just don't help them again.
