Proud of Cremation

I wold not post this, since I have no gory images, but it looks like a slow day so here goes.

Does anyone else find that people who chose to be cremated are overtly proud of their decision? Time and time again, when I find myself in conversations with people and the topic of final arrangements comes up, people who have decided to be cremated seem to want to make a point of it.

For example, this evening a co-worker said he was going to a friend's funeral. He then said he had made per-arrangements.

"That's a good idea," I said.

"Yeah, I'm going to be cremated," he said. They all say it the same way, with emphasis like they want you to know they just joined some elite club.

"That's nice," I said.

He looked at me, silent for a moment.

"I'm going to have my ashes put in a family urn," he said, studying me even closer. Obviously, I had failed to give the proper response so far.

"Maybe you can do that while you are at the funeral home later." He looked at me sideways and walked off.

What the hell is so significant about deciding to be cremated? No one ever says, "I'm going to be buried..." with the same emphasis.

Maybe it's me, but, OK you want your body burned like trash. Till then, get over yourself.

The costs of funerals, are through the roof. It's just affordable and cheaper for most.

I'm opting for the fire option versus the cold ground but it's has nothing to do with anything beyond my personal choice. No one but my wife knows of this as it's no one fucking buisness or concern. And my ashes, I don't want them to remain in an urn either, skatter them in the winds to forever to be forgotten.

The same people who make a big point of it are probably the same people who would video their own suicide for the attention even though absolutely none of it matters after they're dead anyway. I've told my daughter .. if it wasn't illegal, just put me in a hole in the backyard and use the otherwise wasted funeral money on a holiday or some shit .
I get your vibe on the topic, I don't like people who seem to have a hidden virtuous "point" or have to elaborate on their own self importance no matter what it is they are talking about.
When you said "Maybe you can go do it at the next funeral" it would have been so unexpected because they are only wound up in their own importance in a conversation. I used to get it a lot at work from people who would gloat about buying a car or a house or going on a trip etc ... it's all just posturing and reinforcing to others that they matter more than anyone else in the room.

Brilliant idea. I like that. At least that makes some use of your remains, as opposed to setting them on fire. I mean, your kids could use you as a pin cushion, a door shop, a scarecrow in the garden...lots of things.
and punching bag!

i gunna be cremated and my ashes used for fertilizing an oak tree. so this way i can drop my nuts on people.

You get buried in a USB thumb drive when you become obsolete

I want to be partially cremated, then my remaining remains positioned in the middle of the town in such a manner that it’ll be immediately known it’s a glory hole. Primed and prepped to be fucked.. all the while women dressed in mystical ass robes, chanting pleasure noises during the dirty deed.

I want to my skeleton to be used in horror movies or horror house. 💀

People working at funeral homes will mostly tell you that they want to be cremated and be thrown in the wind somewhere.

I too want to be cremated but only because my family are not allowed to dump me in the river or an old quarry. Getting planted these days costs an absolute fortune thousand of ££s for the plot alone. A cremation is much cheaper and it leaves a bit more money for my wife and 2 kids. I have never felt the need to mention it to anyone but my family. I can now add you and the rest of GG to those I mentioned to:rollseyes2:
