I wold not post this, since I have no gory images, but it looks like a slow day so here goes.
Does anyone else find that people who chose to be cremated are overtly proud of their decision? Time and time again, when I find myself in conversations with people and the topic of final arrangements comes up, people who have decided to be cremated seem to want to make a point of it.
For example, this evening a co-worker said he was going to a friend's funeral. He then said he had made per-arrangements.
"That's a good idea," I said.
"Yeah, I'm going to be cremated," he said. They all say it the same way, with emphasis like they want you to know they just joined some elite club.
"That's nice," I said.
He looked at me, silent for a moment.
"I'm going to have my ashes put in a family urn," he said, studying me even closer. Obviously, I had failed to give the proper response so far.
"Maybe you can do that while you are at the funeral home later." He looked at me sideways and walked off.
What the hell is so significant about deciding to be cremated? No one ever says, "I'm going to be buried..." with the same emphasis.
Maybe it's me, but, OK you want your body burned like trash. Till then, get over yourself.
