Norfolk police are investigating a deadly shooting Saturday morning at Fat Philly's along Azalea Garden Road that left a woman dead and the suspected gunman dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say the series of events began at a home on Blackwood Avenue, where officers responded to a reported domestic dispute involving a stepson and stepfather.
When officers arrived, they found a 45-year-old man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police said the suspect had already left the area by the time officers arrived.
A short time later, officers were called to Fat Philly's in the 2700 block of Azalea Garden Road for a reported shooting inside the business.
Inside, officers found a woman suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the suspect went into the business and got into an altercation with the employee before the shooting happened.
"Everybody in this community knows this woman. And to hear something like that happen to her, is just really unfortunate," Norfolk neighbor Howard Tessier said. "She would, everytime I come through, she would always be very helpful, ready to help people out, and just greet you right at the door. And if you go there often, she'll know who you are and she'll be ready to help you."
Later, officers responded to reports of a vehicle left running in the roadway. When they arrived, police found the suspect suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier Saturday, Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot said investigators were still trying to determine whether the suspect and employee knew each other.
"So, three tragic incidents. However, we're not looking for any suspects," Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot said.
The investigation remains active, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Norfolk Crime Line.
