They are in Virginia in the United States. I kill them at the end of every spring when it starts to get cold and they are searching for warmth. Hard little bastards to kill. Very Fast and tough shell with a nasty bite.
 
My mother's father, Ernest, began WW1 fighting on the Western Front in France and then got transferred to Palestine (topical I know), which probably saved his life.

He told me once that he was in Palistine in a tent with 2 other guys who were a lot taller than he was, he was only about 5'4") and thus was at their shoulder level. He woke up to find some sand basket baller had cut the two guys throats in the night.

But to get back on topic here, he said to me once that it was always best to empty your boots out upside down each morning as he'd had a cobra fall out of them once.

I was camping in Kakadu national park, up near Darwin NT and followed his advice and a scorpion fell out, so it pays to listen to old guys as they've been alive a long time and may have learned a thing or two...
