When I was inside, I read loads about aircraft, helicopters an' that, like. Wanted to get me private pilot's licence when I got out. That there's a CH-53 Sea Stallion, that is. The smoke comin' from just below the rotors? That's a dead giveaway. That bit's where the engines an' gearbox live. An' them engines? Got a well-documented history of bein' proper trouble. An' the gearbox, been a weak point for years.
I know that 'cause of the sudden loss of main rotor torque, if the main gearbox packed in an' the rotor RPM actually dropped, then the tail rotor would suddenly have nothin' to counteract it, an' it'd shove the nose left. Exactly like what happened at the end there, that.
For 40,000,000 USD a pop, you'd reckon them American lads would've sussed it by now, wouldn't ya?
