My dad was an engineer for the RR for decades. He said this happens a lot. Either people jumping in front or parking cars on the tracks. When the trains going they can’t stop on a dime. Takes a bit for them to be able to stop. I loved hearing his stories growing up even tho I didn’t get to see him much. He worked long hours and was asleep the few hrs he was home. He even lost a leg at 27 due to a cable car accident on the repair track. Didn’t stop him from working tho. He went back with a fake leg and kept on.
