The Eurovision Song Contest

Bit of a confession I guess

But the Eurovision Song Contest final is on May 13th I'm curious to know who among us weirdos who would publicly admit to being is a fan of this event?

Do you consider it a guilty pleasure? Do you have any special traditions on the night of the event? I personally love it so much, never miss it. I always do a Euro tapas kinda thing, foods from Italy, Germany, Belgium, Spain etc and we get piss drunk. Graham Norton and Rylan are hilarious presenters, even if you hate the music. Its not my usual music, Ya have to put your Eurovision ears on and just enjoy the spectacle and comedy. (although some amazing acts have risen from this contest, Maneskin (Italy) and Hatari (Iceland)

As for the competition itself, who do you think will win this year? Have you listened to any of the entries, and do you have a favourite? It's always interesting to hear people's predictions and opinions on the various performances.

And last but not least, what do you think of your own country's entry? Are you proud of the song and the artist representing your nation, or do you think its wank.

I loved our entry last year, Sam Ryders, Space Man, we would have won if it wasnt for the fucking Ukranians garnering sympathy from the rest of the world, This years UK entry Mae Muller is definitely cheesy euro pop.. but itll not even top 10, possibly a nil points..

My Fave for 2023 is Germay.. Its sooo good, plus theyre all fuckable yeah?

Favorite German group is and will always be Rammstein

This is the most disgustingly perverse thread I have seen on this site. You Eurovision fans should be ashamed of yourselves!

PS: How dare you use France Gall's name in vain?!

My personal favorite by her.

She was soooo gorgeous, loved her, and excellent track, I don't think I've found many people outside of France and Germany that have ever heard of her. I went to see her grave a few years ago (among others, I do like seeing celeb graves) hers was so sad, she's buried next to her husband and daughter, who died young from Cystic fibrosis

May I ask how you know her, I just assume you're American or British. If it is just an interest in vintage French music you have, you may like a bit of Francoise Hardy, I dont think anyone has ever sounded so innocent, yet at the same time so fucking filthy.

I don't know exactly where I learned of her. I grew up a bit of a Francophile, so somewhere along the line - probably by way of Serge Gainsbourg. I like French 60s pop as well as French music from the 20's, 30's, but I'm no expert on any it. Europe in the 60s has always been an interest of mine. Thanks for the recommendation: I do have some of Francoise Hardy's cds in storage, but I haven't listened to them in some time. That is sad about France Gall's daughter; I didn't know about that. Cystic Fibrosis is a horrific disease [sidenote: there's a great documentary from the 90s called "Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist". Interesting and even inspirational film about Bob, who was an artist, masochist, and the longest living survivor of cystic fibrosis at the time. Worth a watch if, judging by your presence on this site, you like non-mainstream topics and media.] Grave visiting sounds like a much better tourist activity than visiting an overcrowded museum or historically famous something or other. I've been to Elizabeth Short's (The Black Dahlia's) grave, but aside from hers I haven't made any pilgrimages to notable gravesites. Off the top of my head, two I would like to visit are Louise Brooks' and GG Allin's.

Btw, I do hope you get some help for that little problem of yours. As for me, I've lost enough brain cells over the years and I fear watching the Eurovision song contest would push me into the sad end of the IQ bell curve, and I can't take that risk at this point - I don't want to die retarded.
