tell me more about your gf retarded brother
Country fatback green beans. They're fantastic.I'm cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year and since I feel like ham that's the main course, but looking for ideas for side dishes.
Currently thinking about the following:
-a fresh salad of some sorts
-creamed spinach (Ruth's Chris recipe)
-turkeyless stuffing (all the stuffing ingredients but cooked sans bird, I buy turkey wings and put them on top as it bakes so it gets all the flavor)
-mashed mix (potatoes, turnips & carrots)
-brussel sprouts (I love them)
-asparagus (GF loves them)
-squash
-corn pudding
-cheapest dinner rolls I can find (GF's retard brother likes them, I'm planning on chaining him to the backyard fence and lob him one every now and then)
Any favorites you'd suggest?

There's a lot of recipes that have ingredients that we can get in Canada. Things like canned sweet potatoes, frozen pearl onions (I make an excellent creamed onion casserole), maple syrup NOT from Quebec, chipped beef, T&T bloody mary mix.Land O Lakes or Kerrygold butter.![]()
Southern Sweet Potato Casserole
This Easy Sweet Potato Casserole has a creamy filling made with canned sweet potatoes and is topped with a brown sugar streusel topping.www.thecountrycook.net
I soak my ham in pineapple juice w/ seven up. Pulls out all that salt. I add brown sugar and some juice from the cherries. All that sodium will swell ya 🤣 but not my hamHam is like bacon, it goes with almost everything.
You could even go Hawaiian and throw a pineapple ring in on.
I always fix homemade mashed potatoes and Stouffer's mac & cheese and yeast rolls and green beansI'm cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year and since I feel like ham that's the main course, but looking for ideas for side dishes.

I had the multiple mash mix at the Petroleum Club years ago and was very good. Nice way to add a bit of life to plain old potatoes. I ended up using rutabaga (an underused veg in my opinion) but parsnips would also work, anything with a bit of bitterness.I never considered simply adding other vegetables as a method to change the flavor of mashed potatoes. If you're looking for something different consider the rutabaga.
I'd recommend a portion-divided dish with small food like green and black olives, dill and sweet pickles, baby carrots and some ranch, crackers, or there are also sometimes places which sell small loaves of sliced bread, then cheddar and pepper jack cheese cubes. So in theory, even if somebody would have preferred turkey they are still able to meet some requirements of their pallette by indulging in a dish with a wide variety available to them. Usually a good place to add in the deviled eggs.
Depending on the brother's level of retardation I'd keep it near an area of high -traffic so it's visible, but he's not encouraged to stand there and fill himself before the dinner actually starts. Although, if he does go on a chain I suppose you could pour some ranch on a few dandelion plants for him if you're feeling in the mood.
I've seen people put mini marshmallows on the yams right before it's finished baking to add some more sweetness to it.
One thing I don't believe I saw here was an unusual "salad". It is called a salad, I just call it fluff. It again includes marshmallows, usually a fruit like cherries, maybe diced pineapple, maybe nuts, some other shit and that's the best I've got. Anybody know what it's called? More of a dessert than anything.
MacNcheese, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, corn….literally anything. I’m so fucking hungry now.I'm cooking Thanksgiving dinner this year and since I feel like ham that's the main course, but looking for ideas for side dishes.

The mother in law always brings a plate of cold nibblies including homemade calabrese antipasto (its so fucking good), other pickled things, cheese, crackers, etc.
The retard said he wasn't feeling well so bailed, no one was disappointed. He probably went to the casino to waste his disability. He plays the slots and says he has a system, I hate him so much.
Last one sounds like ambrosia salad, its a southern US thing and IMO gross.
Final meal was:
-BBQ roasted ham
-red lettuce salad, walnuts & goat cheese
-creamed spinach
-turkeyless stuffing
-mashed mix (yukon gold potatoes, yam, rutabaga lots of butter & cream)
-brussel sprouts
-asparagus
-candied sweet potatoes (where were you @Cold Ethyl?)
-navy bean salad
-cranberry sauce
-spiced apple slices (tried as I might I just couldn't get the fuckers to turn red)
GF made a tiramisu.
