In Orwell's book, that was the daily ritual where everyone would be required to watch a film where the regime would present the enemy of the state, Goldstein, in the most negative terms possible, and people would have to make some sort of display of hatred, throwing objects, ranting, screaming, etc.
Ok now I get it. Although I'm familiar with the book I've never read it. I primarily read non fiction, but I do recall in the year 1984 the book being a big topic
