And in which part of the country a European could survive? I guess at the coasts.
Is it at least a dry heat? Not this awful humid heat like in the rainforests etc. most European colonists got sick over the time back then. The Brits even invented gin/tonic long drinks for that reason.

There was docu about the 'flying doctors' on TV here who give medical support to the people in the outback. It's a while ago and was worth a watch.
The camera team had to have their cars/supplies checked by the authorities before they were allowed to go in this area.
