World’s ‘oldest baby’ born from embryo frozen in 1994

Thaddeus Daniel Pierce was born on 26 July in Ohio to Lindsey and Tim Pierce, using an “adopted” embryo from Linda Archerd, 62, from more than 30 years ago.

In the early 1990s, Archerd and her then husband decided to try in vitro fertilisation (IVF) after struggling to become pregnant. In 1994 four embryos resulted: one was transferred to Archerd and resulted in the birth of a daughter, who is now 30 and mother to a 10-year-old. The other embryos were cryopreserved and stored.

Archerd was awarded custody of the embryos after divorcing her husband. She then found out about embryo “adoption”, a type of embryo donation in which both donors and recipients have a say in who receives the embryos.

Archerd had a preference for her embryo to be “adopted” by a white, Christian married couple, leading to the Pierces adopting the embryo.

The embryo was created in 1994, when the adoptive father was still a toddler. A Christian "embryo adoption" agency facilitated the donation.

I don't think it's impossible, artificial insemination is possible, although this baby is clearly still being artificially fed and possibly only able to breathe artificially. The latter is not very healthy for the lungs in the long run .at any age if you are put on a ventilator machine in a hospital

I think so too. Makes me think life itself. If we think bacteria as a living thing, they can be in stasis in a millions years, and be able to ”wake up”. Its i supposed one alternative opinion how life is come in earth in first place.

When you put a living thing in a regular freezer, it forms ice crystals that puncture cells, which kills it. Somehow they replace the water in the egg with something else and then freeze it in a way so ice crystals won't form. I wonder if that's what was done with Walt disneys brain
