Roadkill meat

Yesterday i've found a new hobbie, for the tird time i've see on my way to work, a big young female badger perfectly intact, roadkilled no more than 2 hours before.
this time cannot resist to my istinct and i've loaded in my car.
with kitchen knives, i've skinned and cleaned from innards, and cut out feets head and tail with machete, and now i've immerse the carcass in a torrent near my house and will remain here for 3/4 days for improve meat, like suggested me by my hunter friend.(says that when he kill a fox he immerse the meat in torrent for a entire week, to cleean meat from bad smell)
i would like topreserve the skin but i havent a knife suitable to scraping fat from skin so, i'm undecided if buy one or not, but i don't think that will be my only experience with roadkill meat.
I really love wild meat and buy a lot of boar and roe deer by a hunter friend, but I havent balls to kill that I eat, i still have remorse for that only octopus cought with bare hands 5 years ago.
my lady hate this new hobby and find it really creepy, she had asked me if i've mental problems with extreme seriety, and only hunters seems not horrify in front of the description above.

Sooooo
you bounch of psycotic gore obsessed, what think about?

If i had the certaintly thath my shoth is a kill maybe i could, but i can't endure the idea to hurt a beast who escape and slowly die some time after, i've listen stories about boars injured with face blow out by cal 12 runned away and escaped from hunter teams.

Knowing the time frame when the animal has died is important & getting the internals(that's what goes off first) out so they don't taint the meat, I usually soak game meat in a mix of salt & vinegar for 24hrs to get the game taste out. The South African Sealous Scouts found that if you knew a beast had died within 1-2 weeks you could boil the meat for a minimum of 4 hrs & safely eat it, BUT, reheating it again would give you botulism & most probably kill you. Get the internals out asap & you can hang the meat in a cool spot for a couple of days. Washing the meat & leaving it in a stream is interesting, would stop the flies from blowing it.

This animal where dead no more than a couple hours, blood flowed from mouth where fresh and wheren't rigor mortis, i've clean from guts 8 h after i've found it, but where only a little blood inside, cos the internal bleeding that coused death wasn't massive

You'll want to brine that meat, rather than let a torrent have at it. Salted water will remove excess blood from the meat. You really should go for the freshest kill you can get, so that it might be properly bled. 24 hours brine with at least 2 changes of solution. You'll want to pressure cook that badger, if you don't crock it on low for many hours.

If you are going to play with roadkill as food, gut those suckers where you find them or as soon as possible. You are really putting yourself at risk. Look at the intestines. Make sure intestines are intact and that no kind of poo is leaking into other innards or meat. Pass on anything pooey, even a little bit.
Pass on anything where brain material or material from the spinal cord has made contact with meat.

its not just roadkill, generally want to avoid shit in anything you kill & eat

as for what happens? possibility of GI parasites or bacterial infections like e. coli....similar risks from eating human ass

my brother's wife comes from absolute white trash and her family regularly picks up dead animals found roadside....they're awful people

It tasted like veal, but with strong wild flavor cos i don't have clean very well the fat from muscle.

Same with skin, don't very clean from fat cos haven't a good knife for skinning, but was my first attempt

We grew up hard. Hunting family, in the woods. We grew up afraid, of cold war, hunger, etc. Parents wanted little survivalists.

I have had roadkill. Deer. Insta-kiil on the road ahead of me, 3 cars. Thankfully, it was a head bash.

My ex and I put the word out we'd take freshies, so we got to run out and get a couple of deer that way.

I prefer my meat neatly compressed into a package or fresh off the foot. Too many alternatives to something that could be harboring all manner of zoonoses, unless one is undergoing hardship. I can appreciate those who have a respect for life and/or desire to prevent waste, to increase self sufficiency, though.

Iv'e had Lyme Disease, Tularemia, and Ringworm. The Tularemia came from a rabbit I was butchering. My hand was slippery with blood. I dropped my knife, it hit my foot, making a tiny pin prick. It was enough to inoculate myself. Life changing, and there's worse disease out there.

After being so sick, I could no longer raise and butcher my own animals. I now have a dread fear of zoonotic disease, to the point I no longer hunt.
