bizarre enjoying the new year

and Brian's eyebrows were never seen again
When i was probably about 12 my dad took the lid off of a barbecue and the flames shot up about 4 feet. At first we were all scared, but once we realized he was ok… and was missing his eyebrows, it became the best barbecue I’ve ever been to.

Fuses that are covered with that waxy looking "insulation" is called quickmatch. A regular fuse burns about an inch per second. Quickmatch goes at around 20 inches per second. It is originally used to accelerate a fuse flame going into a charge of dynamite to light the black powder priming charges at the ends of the sticks evenly to ensure proper and even propagation of the flame front through the dynamite once ignition occurs so it becomes a proper detonation. Yes, quickmatch by itself, with no payload, held in the hands or placed close to somebody's body and lighted, WILL cause severe and possibly fatal burns. It is basically black powder packed inside a waterproof and hollow wax sheath.

Yes, many people assume fuses on fireworks are like what they see on cartoons where the wick sizzles away slowly ... BIG NOPE and how people often blow their hands apart .
