Just Stop Oil Activists Who Threw Tomato Soup at Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’ Get Prison Time

I don’t quite get your point about respect and agreement. No one died but if you destroy old art you are the scummiest of scum to me. Of course there was glass over the painting but the gram got damaged.

I disagree with the example thing well It depends on the crimes. Like making an example out of some of the people who block traffic and risk death for themselves or the drivers. I don’t see how reducing that is so bad.
You can respect someone/thing without being in total agreement with their actions or messaging. I simply respect their efforts to shine a light to their cause in an impactful nonviolent manner.

Again, these paintings aren’t the originals, they are kept in storage. People who believe these paintings were truly damaged are what give this type of protest the “SHOCK” factor.

Making an example of these folks in this instance can lead to a slippery slope. Just cause they can doesn’t mean they should, authoritarian obedience over freedom of speech?

well they did damage a centuries old frame that is the original. I don’t think this stuff how this stuff helps there cause at all. It just pisses people off. The people I respect are those that go into government or into environmental science or engineers or lobby the government. Protest too but I wouldn’t go this route.

But this isn’t just free speech though, they are damaging property that isn’t theirs. If they were protesting outside Chevrons headquarters or something ok fine I would have no problem. That’s not covered under free speech. If they just protested fine. I don’t know if it would be a slippery slope or not. You’d have to explain how it would be a slippery slope.

We will see what sentence they get. I think if they are gonna “make an example” to discourage this behavior I would rather them go after some of the people that block traffic because that can get people killed.

also I agree with your first point of course. I just don’t know what their cause is, I’m gonna look at their website actually to correct my ignorance. I might be totally against their cause because some of these environment groups seem to be more about destroying globalism and capitalism then reducing CO2 omission but as I said I’m gonna check out their site right now.

They think stopping the usage of oil is going to save humanity and make the world better?

It’s pretty foolish for people who live in countries that already heavily monitor pollution to cry about it only to be canceled out by every country that don’t give a fuck like China and India.

Cobalt mining for Tesla car batteries is more detrimental to the earth than a life time of fossil fuel use

I read their site, apparently they got the UK government to stop giving new oil and natural gas licenses and then they want to end gas and oil by 2030. They think if we don’t this will happen, this is from their site:
“Fossil fuels are driving us towards climate collapse. We have already passed 1.5C of global heating and are expected to pass 2C in the 2030s. This spells disaster for human societies globally.

Without an emergency plan to cut fossil fuel use we face: floods, droughts, and wildfires like we have never seen before, crops will fail, billions of people will be exposed to unlivable conditions, hundreds of millions will face starvation and ultimately death.“

I dont know if thats true or not, it seems extreme. Do you know about this climate change subject, my knowledge is pretty limited?

Then they want a fossil fuel treaty and they say this from their website:

“After decades of climate negotiations, fossil fuels have finally been dragged centre stage. Despite this, many governments are still approving new coal, oil and gas projects — threatening our chances of limiting warming to 1.5ºC.

It's crystal clear: we now need a concrete, binding plan to end the expansion of new coal, oil and gas projects and manage a global transition away from fossil fuels.

To protect people from the threat fossil fuels pose to our climate, our health and our future, a growing bloc of 13 countries are seeking a negotiating mandate for a Fossil Fuel Treaty.

The proposed treaty would complement the Paris Agreement by providing the global roadmap needed to halt the expansion of fossil fuel, manage an equitable phase-out of coal, oil and gas, and lay the foundations for a true just energy transition in which no worker, community or country is left behind.

Which nation-state will be next to join the growing club of countries seeking a negotiating mandate for a new treaty on fossil fuels?“

Seems like a reasonable idea, what do you think of this?

can you send me anything about that cobalt mining point you made?

No dude I know groups like this. They don’t like the label liberal. Liberals are center left. Like Hillary Clinton is a liberal. These type of eco-activists would label themselves progressive, socialist, maybe eco-socialists or greens. They aren’t liberals, liberals don’t want to ban oil ok. I’ve seen their shenanigans before I’m aware of them.
Liberals, like the Australian Labor and Greens party, are of the same political colour, pink.

And they do want to ban oil. Desperate to push EV's down our throats.

In some Aus states, such as Victoria, no new houses are allowed to have gas. Verboten.

Why else did Trump say 'we're going to drill baby, drill' if the 'liberals' were not anti fossil fuels?

This judge passing these sentences on protesters is a shithead who allows bent cops to get away with serious offenses via suspended sentences etc

I myself will not proclaim to be a know it all, but it does make sense that we’re destroying our own planet.

Even though I do believe earth will and or would change regardless (climate wise/geographically), I still support the idea that we’re aiding and expediting our very own demise sooner than later and that should be a slight worry in the back of people's minds. Especially for folks who want to have kids and live long enough to see their kids and grandchildren grow up.

I completely agree people should be able to protest the corporations and companies in charge of causing such damage, but the reality is money talks. I wish it was as easy for an average Joe to walk into the capital and try to lobby politicians into protecting our environment without the need to offer money or favors. Like it or not our systems are corrupt and manipulated by folks richer than all of us combined. This desperation is what causes folks to be more expressive in protesting and they shouldn’t be discouraged nor shunned. I did not know the frame was an antique, but sometimes you gotta do what must be done to raise awareness. I really hope other countries will adopt legislation to prevent drilling and mining. Also drilling and mining are extremely dangerous jobs and historically workers have been mistreated and taken for granted, all for the pocket change of the powerful and “decent pay” for us. . .

These oil Barrons who've never had to work a day in their lives pay hundreds of thousands and even up to millions in order to lobby politicians into their pockets. When the time comes and we all need masks and respirators to breathe our environment we won’t be side by side with those faggots. They’ll be safe and sound in private sectors, not much different than they are living already now.

If all these young kids really wanted to make a difference then they would volunteer to get sterilized since less population would lead to less resources needed.

It’s always gays and lezbos who are unsavory to look at. They think by virtue signaling it makes them more desirable within the faggot community. They’re right it does.

Then do some research and look up their political bias for yourself, you lazy twat.
Told you before, you stupid cunt. I'm not a racist - I just don't like black, brown or yellow people...that isn't racist.
Now go and rape your dead mother some more.
Now don't you let that nasty Blair man get you down darling. Getting called a racist these days should be seen as a compliment for plain old fashioned clear thinking...

yea I guess that true about electric vehicles, pushing down throats is not how I’d put it.

No gas? What do they use then?

Well because Trump is a bombastic guy so he says shit like that but we are still producing oil like crazy even under Biden.

I’m skeptical of some of the solutions to climate change, I’m skeptical of EV’s actually, I don’t think they are the solutions some people say, but I think we should be moving away from oil don’t you?
