NYC sightseeing helicopter plunges into river, killing 6, including family of Spanish tourists

KITT. You may be thinking about the B-2 bomber. Military planes may take that much maintenance. It’s closer to 1:3 or 1:4 for most civilian heli’s but your point well taken. Helicopters have a shitload of moving parts and they all have to work, every time.

Something more important is glide distance. An airplane’s wing generates its lift so they can glide a reasonable distance if their engine(s) stop. Typically a 10:1 ratio for a smaller plane meaning if they are 4 miles (20,000’) above the ground they can glide about 40 miles from the point they lose power. That offers quite a few options to land.

Helicopters generate lift by spinning their main rotor. When the engine(s) quit the pilot has to keep the rotor moving using its own momentum and air flowing over the rotor blades. It’s a dance. Done correctly this gives helicopters a glide ratio closer to that of a brick. 1:3 or 1:4 in a well executed autorotation. So for every foot you lose in altitude you can go 3-4’ forward.

Another problem with helicopters is they generally fly much lower than airplanes, like 1,000-2,000’ above the ground. This means you are pretty much fucked if you lose power.

Let’s take a helicopter that loses power at 1,500’. In the best of circumstances with a pilot doing everything right they will have about a 6,000 radius to chose a landing spot. Over a desert you may be ok. Over a big city not so ok.

The only advantage in a helicopter is that your forward speed will be close to zero when you touch down, so a parking lot or any other empty place will do to land.

In an airplane, where you will be going from 70-100mph or more when you touchdown you will need space to roll out, like 1 or 2,000 feet of clear space.

I know, thats long response to your maintenance comment, but you know me…
I'm a helicopter pilot. Shut up.

No you didn't.
Fuck off already !!! IMG_6797.webp IMG_6798.webp

Look here, retard... "bodies"= dead people.

Nobody in that helicopter was alive by the time rescuers arrived.

An early report said two were transported to a hospital, but they were dead. There is an adage in EMS when dealing with potential hypothermia patients “they aren’t dead until they are warm and dead”. Perhaps that was in play, but they died when they hit the water.

Per media, they're not dead until pronounced anyway so you don't report it until confirmed & it seems silly a couple of peeps are quibbling over what's been reported in the media really ITT.

Now of course, Ward Cleaver would never take a joy-ride in a helicopter under any circumstances. But, just for a moment...let's assume a hypothetical scenario, wherein Ward Cleaver purchased a ticket for a helicopter joy-ride.

I would have walked with the other folks towards the helicopter, but as soon as we got close enough so that I could see who was going to be flying that helicopter...I can assure you, I would have immediately turned around, walked back to the parking lot, got back into my car, and got my ass up the road.

Black, white, mexican, asian, whatever... It didn't matter who was piloting that helicopter. Some people are saying that one of the rotors collided with the tailboom. What they call a "mast collision". I don't think that type of incident would pull the entire transmission out of the heli. Also, the rotor that supposedly collided would have been shredded, instead it's shown intact.

This looks intentional. I'm not one to buy into conspiracies unless the only other plausible explanations are nearly inconceivable. I wouldn't be surprised if the TSA finds explosives residue.

He was qualified and current. Melatonin didn’t cause this crash.

*melanin you mean. Melatonin is different.

Melanin and melatonin are distinct substances with different functions. Melanin is a pigment that provides color to skin, hair, and eyes, while melatonin is a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and circadian rhythms. While they have distinct roles, they can also interact in some ways, with melatonin potentially influencing melanin production.

You are so bad (good). You have ESPNHD and know my thoughts. Yep, what she said is what I meant to say.

He isn’t here to defend himself. Let’s wait for the NTSB report before we crucify the pilot.

For sure, there's nothing that pilot could have done to prevent that, and nothing he could have done to cause it. I'm still thinking this might be an assassination though.

Nobody on that helicopter was alive after it crashed. Period.

If you can't wrap your head around that, I don't know what else to tell you.
Right they all died due to being in the crash. Im not disputing that. All i said was i seen reports that a couple were taken to hospital then declared dead and you said im full of shit. Then i showed the articles. And here we are ….

No, Tony... You're backtracking and doubletalking trying to save face. But everything you've said thus far contradicts what you're saying now:

First you said some of them lived and then died in the hospital:

And here you said you read a report that said 2 "survivors" that later died.

3.webp

Except the screenshots you shared NEVER said there were survivors. It said victims:

And THEN you said some of them had pulses:

6.webp

The crash happened at 3:17pm. The article I posted at the very beginning says the helicopter and BODIES weren't recovered until about 8pm.
You have not shown us ANYTHING that says LIVING people were rescued and then died later. I really didn't want to go to this much trouble to prove a point, but goddamn you're stubborn.

Let it go already...

6 minus 4 is 2 you dumb fuck !
Im not back tracking fuck all. I even circled the articles and words for you. Ffs are u stupid!? Sure they recovered some bodies at 8pm …. How many does it say? No !!! But i think we can assume if 2 were taken to hospital earlier then it was likly 4 that were extracted at 8. I didnt read or watch your fucking report either. I stated what i saw/heard in other reports online. Suck a fat cock already your the only one back pedaling here and the only one who cant do grade 1 math. Theres many news outlets that all reported on it. Some have more info then others. Which would mean some have less info than others. Einstein ! You attacked me and called me names. I showed a couple articles and highlighted the words for your little Neanderthal brain to comprehend! To help you understand how i got to my original conclusion. There are many more if you need me to show you more. Maybe your eyes were too full of body temperature wad to see the screen shots i sent !? The dead dont typically go to the hospital to see a dr. If they had a pulse they would go to the hospital. The father and pilot were ex military. One could also assume those may of been the 2 who were taken to hospital vs a lady and 3 children. But who really knows.

How about this. Hours later all 6 were extracted. All were dead on the scene. The rescuers decided to declare 4 of them dead on scene and choose 2 at random to not declare dead, but instead to give 2 of them a ride to the hospital emergency department to see a doctor to declare them dead. Becuase the law is that we can only declare 4 dead on scene and any additional dead must be transferred to a new location to be declared dead.
…. Yea is that better ? This fits your narrative?
