back in the early 80's i was a bouncer in a bar (Bar Casablanca, Brielle, NJ). each of us
had to do parking lot duty for 1 hour a night.
next to the kitchen back door was an almost full 55gal barrel of used fryer oil.
i was worried that the kitchen staff would be asked to move the barrel. they were
a bunch of skinny guys and gals. i never realized that the bar had a service to pick up
used fryer oil
i used the garden hose attached to the hose bib to siphon the fryer oil onto the parking lot.
when i got back on the door EVERYBODY complained that their cars were sliding!
beats me how it happened and that's the story i'm sticking too!

It is oil already in the road most likely. It splatters and drips from every vehicle on the road every day and from the sweat of greasy pedestrians. It gets into all the little nooks and crannies of the pavement and creates a thin film between the surfaces of the gravel or sand aggregates. Rain lifts and floats that settled oil to create slick conditions.
They say the most dangerous time to be on a wet road is the beginning of a rainfall when the oil is floating up from the road before it is washed away by a steady rain and dragged along and diluted by traffic.
