China's Railgun

I snagged this video off of YouTube so you don't have to watch the commercials.
I had to reduce the file size in order to post it here, but the quality is still pretty good.

Jsyk if you post up a youtube link it should play without adverts provided you don't leave GG to watch it.
There's also a chance that a video is country dependant though then it won't play at all.

Great video @CunningLinguist !

A couple of things are kind of suspect though. At about 3:46, he says that with AI the slug can change direction mid air. I just don't see how this is possible once the slug has left the gun. From what it sounds like, AI isn't built into the slug, so once released it's on its own.

The other thing picks up at around 5:43. He says that it doesn't run out of ammo. If it shoots slugs, than it can most certainly run out of ammo. It seems it can't run out of power, but ammo is a different story.

Either way, this was very interesting and informative!

I prefer it this way myself. I use a VPN and I'm on private mode, so YT videos won't play for me on here. I have to copy the url and paste it into a browser on regular mode where I'm already signed into YT to watch it.

Railguns have never been successful in operational/practical military. They require a lot of energy to operate plus they wear out quite fast, and are also clumsy.

In 2006 I thought this was Tesla technology, particle beam, as well as rail technology, all intertwined, this shit is way more advanced than your seeing here. Its always info too late too little time, geared to scare you out of your wallet πŸ˜‰

they wear out quite fast

See, that's another thing. In order for a projectile to fly accurately, it needs rifling. As fast as that shoots along with the shear volume of ammo, you'd think the lands and grooves would wear out rather quickly. If it doesn't rely on rifling, I'm not sure how it can maintain an accurate trajectory, especially for as far as they claim.

Well, AI can make anything appear possible, including a functional railgun

Good to know - thank you. (I actually took a copy of it to keep in my personal library, then I made a smaller file to upload here.)

I actually thought the same things. It is essentially a bullet, not a missile, and you can't make something like that change direction in midflight. Likewise, ammo maybe plentiful but it is not unlimited.

Even though he did a good job, I find that the narrators are often not too bright. I watched another video last night in which the narrator said something about tablets containing a "secret massage" instead of "secret message." Apparently, narrators don't think too hard about what they are saying.

I see that you are not intimidated by China's railgun. I hope you're right.
Yeah, these things create a lot of impact and strain on themselves. Kinetic orbital bombardment is a way better direction because it's a lump of metal that uses mostly gravity, the thing will just let go of it.

Kinetic bombardment with flechette and flechette shaped things has been terrifying ever since we took to the sky. Modern bombs just used to be pieces of dropped metal that could brain someone easily on contact.

Shit, anything in the sky spooks me more. Drones, hell, even an ornery goose at the lake panics my monkey brain.

I have been shit on shirtless, right between the shoulder blades.
