Why are so many people against socialism/communism?

Objectively a socialist or communist state sounds like a pretty good deal for the citizens and the government. Obviously you can take it too far like North Korea but I feel like China has the perfect balance of the two. As someone who’s lived in China, surviving is just so much easier. I actually had a very hard time when I moved back to the states financially. My healthcare was completely free or very inexpensive in China and it seems like the quality of life is still pretty good even if you age a poor worker. I’ve always been fascinated by the red scare era of American History. ( this is my 1st post btw so sorry if it’s terrible )

The mere fact that the ONLY way to implement socialism or communism in a population is through acts of VIOLENCE should be enough to understand why so many people are against it...

Thank you for your response! It’s so interesting watching videos of North Koreans and the way they live under the absolute rule of the government. When you compare that to a nation like the United States, it’s a day and night difference. The Soviets really did a number on that county. We all would benefit from being a little more content in our lives instead of always chasing more or trying to one up the person next to us. I think a lot of people only see Communism and Socialism as "extreme". This is because our only examples of these forms of governing are done to the extreme and run by inherently corrupt forces which undermines the original aspects of communism/socialism. Especially in the west, we have run on the idea that other countries and other forms of government are inferior. Enforcing or propagating anything other than support for capitalism is seen as undermining the values of the west and therefore YOU are the problem. I believe it's purely due to the heavy social fear mongering that people are unwilling to look into other options. It threatens the sense of stability that those who are successful (by capitalist standards) have and opens up the possibility that they'd have to change.

Socialism does work because the majority of the people are not inlightend enough to live in a sicialist society.
At the moment the mindset of most people is best suited to live in a REAL democratic and capitalist society.
But at the moment we only have CRONY CAPITALISM, disgueised as democratic- or socialist states!

Millions die in capitalist countries too. I’m not advocating for a totally communist nation. I’m just curious for people’s reasoning for being so against it.

People are against it, I think, because instinctively nobody wants to be controlled and there are numerous examples of how bad communism or even socialism can turn out. In both communism and socialism, the power/control over all of the people under it is in the hands of one power group. While, yes, I have heard that people who live in China have free healthcare and are not as burdened by the cost of living issues in other places, however, there are downsides to having it easy in that way. The control and censorship that the Chinese communist party have over the population, in my opinion, is on the verge of being a George Orwell novel. I do see where you are coming from though, I had that novel idea at one point in my life that a place could be this one big community where everyone is happy and healthy. I feel differently now. Other than maybe on a smaller scale, like a in a commune, but then again it all depends on who is in control. You can walk away from a commune though. You mentioned that you lived in China but no longer do, you admit that you had a nice life there. But someone who was born in China, who feels the pressure of being controlled, feeling stuck and unable to leave, I wonder what that person's point of view would be? Once a country turns over there power to a communist party, how do the people take it back if things go wrong?

I wasn't going to post anything else tonight but insomnia takes over again. I feel your pain in wanting to make your parents happy, but don't go along with religion just to please them. You will feel much better if you let go of trying to be what your parents expect and live for yourself. I've been there, it controls more of your life than you realize at the time. Similar to being in a communist society. You are controlled, you are not free to live your life how you want to.

It’s called being a people pleaser. Learn how to impress people and they’ll like you and hire you. Capitalism 101 dude. Just being marketable. If I had a boss that was Christian I’d pretend to be a Christian. It works to my advantage. You can get all kinds of scholarships for being Catholic.
