Thoughts on this documentary? Synopsis: 18-year-old girl attempts suicide with her brother's hunting rifle, fails, is forced to live with herself.

The documentary:

Earlier today, I created a failed suicide comp. In this comp, I showed 3 clips of people referred to colloquially as "flinches" or "flinchers." My mother was a paramedic and she would tell me things growing up like, "Man, son, I was on the rig today and we came across this one old guy, I thought that motherfucker was DRD [dead right dere] but he was just a flinch!"

Explained briefly,

ChatGPT explains this as:
  • Suicidal ambivalence / last-moment self-preservation. Many people who attempt suicide feel intense, mixed emotions in the moments before an act. Even if they’ve decided to die, a deep, automatic self-preservation drive can kick in right before the act. That can produce a deliberate-feeling pull-back — a way of not fully committing. Clinically, ambivalence about dying is extremely common.
  • Anticipatory anxiety and panic. The thought of pain, noise, blood, or the finality can trigger a surge of fear or panic just before the act. That surge can produce an intentional avoidance movement (“I can’t actually put it to my head”) that feels conscious even while it’s partly reflexive.
  • Cognitive conflict and decision reversal. The motor system implements decisions. If the person’s brain flips from “do it” to “don’t” in the last fraction of a second, that change of plan is expressed as a movement away from the intended target. It can feel like a conscious, deliberate flinch because the decision changed right before the action.
  • Wanting to punish or maim rather than die. For some, the intent isn’t a pure desire for death but an urge to self-harm, punish oneself, or make a dramatic statement. In those cases people may aim in a way that produces severe injury rather than immediate death — which might look like “trying to flinch” on purpose.
  • Learned avoidance / conditioned responses. Over a lifetime you learn to avoid painful or threatening stimuli. Facing an act that will cause extreme bodily harm can trigger those learned avoidance patterns, producing deliberate-looking movements away from the worst outcome.
  • Impairment of judgment (substances, shock). Alcohol or drugs, or extreme emotional distress, can make someone act in a conflicted, impulsive way: they may intend one outcome but perform another in the heat of the moment.
I've always been INTRIGUED by this even from the early days of my journey into gore. Who are these people? What made them decide to do this? How does one live without 1/2 of their senses? Was it an act of God that he allowed them to live? Was it divine punishment for taking a gun to something made in His image? Or was it His mercy that they were allowed to live life, and with renewed appreciation this time? Many of them (from my perspective) seem to obtain some sort of new appreciation for life. Even the woman in the documentary stated she was just happy to still be alive. Almost like survivors of Saw traps.

This whole thing seems profoundly tragic. All this because some 18-year-old made an impulsive decision she couldn't possibly comprehend the ramifications of in a moment of pure darkness.

Pretty sure a lot is attention whores claims or pretends or does half ass "attempts". But those who pull the trigger and blows off their face certainly look like they meant it, but couldn't even get that right. I guess you can never really tell if a person when a person is serious. But regardless suicide attempts is no joke and can ruin peoples life forever - especially young people should really consider. I'm pretty sure we seen plenty of examples of god not being present when people jump, hang or shot for me to believe in any fantasy story.
Besides I believe in spiderman magazines to be human written fantasy stories - Just like any book about religion.

Just take some pills next time.
I did security at this apartment complex when I was 21. It came to me that this one resident had taken a bunch of pills. I remember thinking to myself like, nooo, I was supposed to protect you, why didn't you tell me??

Although frankly I would probably do a combination of things. Plan A followed by plan B. For example, take a bunch of pills and THEN shoot myself in the head with a shotgun. If one doesn't kill me then the other will.

I've thought a lot about that too. For instance getting into a hanging position before shooting a bullet into my head, so that if I fuck it up, the rope will constrict the arteries on the dead weight of my body and finish the job. Laying my neck on a train track and shooting myself right before the train makes contact seems like it would be effective too.

Damn, went from young and pretty with no real reason to want to die to permanently disfiguring herself to the the point where I wouldn't want to live anymore.
yeah it's so crazy when you're a teen and you go "i'll never rise above this :( i'll never be happy again" and it's like bro -- you don't even have bills to pay. you're throwing a bitch fit cuz your first boyfriend/girlfriend broke up. like you can't even comprehend the ramifications of your actions at that age.

Couldn't the dipshit just find a secluded enough spot to just kill herself. It could've saved the parents the time, money, and energy if she had done it that way. But on the other hand, it wouldn't be a surprise if she did it as a way to get the attention she "wasn't receiving". If that's the case, then she's a selfish little shit that deserves a slow death separate from her family and society.

Right until it’s to late

Had a guy take a bunch of pills and when he got sleepy he put a plastic bag over his head. Passed out before air ran out. Thought that was a pretty good non-violent way to go. His fucking head was a gelatinous black mess inside that bag. A note left behind about what to do with his cat.
that's too iffy for me. I'd either jump off a high cliff or building, shotgun (preferred method), or jump in front of the subway...the possibilities are endless so let me think about it some more.

I dont do ewetewb, dweeb. I want my donation back

If someone decides to kill themselves ; nothing is going to stop them . If not a rifle then overdose . The trouble with firearms is what went on here . Pretty rare for women to use a gun .

Then why don't you do it? There's nobody in your life that would give a fuck.
None of us on GG would give a shit either, you'd be forgotten within seconds. You're insignificant.
