Valero oil refinery in Port Arthur hit by fire after massive explosion​

"A massive explosion and ensuing fire hit a Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) oil refinery in Port Arthur, Texas, local media reports and social media footage of the incident showed on Monday.

Reports and social media posts showed a massive plume of smoke emerging from a fire at the refinery, while authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for some parts of the city.

The Valero facility is one of the largest oil refineries in the United States, with a reported capacity of about 380,000 barrels of oil per day.

It was not immediately clear whether production at the facility was impacted. Valero did not immediately respond to a mailed request for comment." Source

Wow, its completely (not) shocking that this happened as the run up to $200 barrel oil is underway. I think I've seen this movie before, a major refinery issue just before the summer blend of more expensive gas comes online.

Trump already spoke the secret oil execs don't want known. War brings high oil prices and massive profits. They want us to think the increases are inevitable, but publicly reported profits quarter to quarter always tell the truth. They don't need to increase fuel prices as much as they do. They do it cuz they can and we have to just take it.

ok so here it is days later,and still reported that its possible a heater caused the explosion. i also read that some petroleum leaked out and then sparked. could the two incidents be the cause? still no definitive answers.

It was a heater/furnace that exploded. Someone’s in trouble. But they’ll have more like this due to a little thing called RBI (Risk based Inspection). Probability of severity and body count is taken into consideration. If it’s only one or 2 families to pay off? Chump change in the pocket book

yep nothing's ever changed, i remember reading about some politician in Tammany Hall who massively profited by buying land just before it became super valuable from some Tammany Hall works project soon to be publicly announced. It made an impression on me as a child and i looked for that specific example but couldn't find it. It's still the same world human nature hasn't changed since caveman times.

A heater has flammable gas and hydrocarbons in it. The tubes carry carry hydrocarbons that are heated up to process.

Unsure the cause. But it exploded. I think they just had a shutdown in January there? Maybe? If so it’s possible operations didn’t purge with air, didn’t realize ignition fuel overfilled before ignition, operator error (mostly likely culprit) or if during service, a tube ruptured and poured hydrocarbons over the firebox
