A Military Police vehicle lost control while trying to catch up with a fleeing car on Avenida Afonso Sampaio e Sousa, on Saturday (14). One officer is conscious and another remains in a coma in the ICU. Two suspects were arrested by another police vehicle. They are suspected of stealing a spare tire from another vehicle. Police officers who were patrolling the area saw the bandits committing the crime and decided to pursue them.

That's not the way you calculate policing. It's not a matter of dollars and cents. It's a matter of upholding the law. Police officers lose their lives chasing a speeding car. You can say just let them go but you don't know what they will do up ahead. But if you only use cost then no policing is cost effective.
