In 1995 Steven Pladl met fifteen year old Alyssa from Texas in an AOL chatroom. Twenty at the time, Steven traveled to Texas from New York to meet Alyssa which resulted in Alyssa running away from home to be with him. Soon after, Alyssa became pregnant at sixteen. Her family took the path of acceptance while supporting the relationship/pregnancy and Alyssa would give birth to their first child (Denise Pladl) at the age of seventeen.
After Denise's birth is when Alyssa says Stevens true colors started to show. She began to realize he wasn't the guy she believed him to be from the internet chatroom. Any minoot thing would set him into a raging fit and he was unable to sustain long term employment due to being terminated or quitting, leaving Alyssa to fend for everyone. He began inflicting harm upon Denise by screaming at and shaking her when crying, beating her until black and blue, pinching her, locking her in a cooler until she was almost out of air, and even drowning her. Alyssa feared leaving due to Steven threatening to off himself on video for her to watch over and over again. Believing Denise would have no chance at life with Steven as her father, she decided to put her up for adoption with no resistance from Steven.
Anthony and Kelly Fusco became Denise's adoptive parents while renaming her Katie Rose Fusco. Anthony Fusco was a thirty year retired military vet who went on to become a correctional officer for an additional twenty years and Kelly was a stay at home mother. They provided a normal loving upbringing for Katie (Denise) along with their biological daughter.
Meanwhile, Alyssa and Steven went on to have two more daughters believing they'd matured enough and were ready to become parents again. Unfortunately, Steven continued to inflict abuse on his children while Alyssa provided for the family as a whole. He would call one of his daughters who was on the autism spectrum a retard and made the other stand in the shower alone for hours after wetting herself for examples.
By the time Katie (Denise) was in highschool she was popular and well liked among her peers. She enjoyed the arts and always had a pen handy to draw anything at anytime. She was known in school for writing and creating comic strips she developed a knack for. She was a vegan/animal lover and planned to major in digital advertising in college. The future seemed bright for her.
In August 2016 when she was 18, Katie decided to reach out to her biological parents on facebook in hopes to get to know them before starting college. Her adoptive parents supported her decision. Steven and Alyssa were receptive and a bond quickly developed between the three through social media which lead Katie to make the decision to visit and spend time with them.
According to Alyssa Steven began to act more standoffish towards her and behaved differently through the duration of Katie's visit. He shaved his beard and began to grow his hair out. He even started dressing more hip and began to talk different. Alyssa would laugh this off assuming Steven was trying to impress his daughter by connecting with her in this manner. During this time is when Katie decided not to enroll in college and move in with Steven and Alyssa instead.
At this point Steven and Alyssa had made the decision to separate and were sleeping in separate rooms. Alyssa didnt want to push her daughter away so she allowed Katie to pick up her belongings and move into their home. Apprehensive about the move, Katie's adoptive parents would ultimately support her decision. A few weeks after moving in with her biological parents, Steven began sleeping on the floor in Katie's room at night. Steven told Alyssa to mind her business after asking why he's sleeping on katies bedroom floor which lead to a huge fight in the household and Steven storming out with Katie by his side.
Concerned Steven is manipulating Katie to believe she was an evil and crazy person, Alyssa sat Katie down and explain why she was put up for adoption in the first place. Katie didn't seem to care and would blow off the conversation about the past abuse Steven inflicted on her. By November 2016 Steven and Alyssa were no longer getting along. Alyssa moved out and shared custody of their two younger daughters.
In May 2017, Alyssa read details in her twelve year old daughters diary pertaining to Steven and Katie's relationship. In the diary her daughter expressed confusion over whether Katie was her sister and wrote that Steven says Katie is her stepmom and not to call her sister. As Alyssa reads further, her daughter reveals details about Katie being pregnant. Soon after, Alyssa calls and confronts Steven about what she's read in their daughters diary about his and Katie's relationship. Steven confirms everything and states "I thought you knew we were in love". After a huge argument, Alyssa called the police.
Alyssa explained to law enforcement that Steven and katie were involved in an incestuous relationship and her concerns about Steven manipulating and grooming their daughter. Police eventually arrived at Stevens home where they sat both Katie and Steven down along with the two younger siblings and had a conversation. No details on the police report are available to the public but Steven and Katie would be left alone after the police visit.
Shortly after this occurrence, Steven and katie moved to Knightdale, North Carolina. Then on July 20, 2017 in Parkton, Maryland Steven and katie married each other by lying on their marriage documents while Katie was fully showing in her pregnancy. Stevens mother and Katie's adoptive parents were present at the wedding. Although Katie's adoptive parents didn't agree with the marriage they felt they had no choice but to support her.
On September 1st 2017 Katie gave birth to her biological fathers baby naming him Bennet Kieron Pladl. Things would take a turn for both of them when they were arrested and charged with incest and adultery. Even though both were slapped with million dollar bonds, eventually they were bailed out. Included in the bonds was for them to have a no contact order with each other leading Katie to pack her things and move back with her adoptive parents. Steven moved back into his home and his mother was granted full custody of their son Bennet.
In April 2018, Katie came to her senses and decided she wanted a divorce from Steven and wanted nothing more to do with him. One week after Katie breaks it off with Steven over the phone, Steven went to his mothers house and picked up their seven month year old son Bennett. He brings him to his home where he put a pillow over his face suffocating him to death. He then travels from Knightdale, NC to Dover, New York with a loaded rifle.
The next day Steven sits in his car outside of Katie's house stalking her. He watches as she and her adoptive father Anthony get into their vehicle and drive off to visit Katie's grandmother in Waterburry, Connecticut. Steven followed them on the route and eventually pulls up next to them at a stop sign. He then murders Katie and Anthony inflicting multiple bullet wounds with a firearm similar to an AR-15 and drives off. First responders at the scene confirmed both Katie and Anthony were dead and described the scene a complete mess with brain matter splattered all over the vehicle and street.
Shortly after Steven called his mother to tell her that he murdered Bennett, Katie and Anthony. Later that day he would commit suicide with the same rifle he murdered Katie and Anthony with. His mother called the police who went to Stevens house and found Bennett in a closet dead. Eventually Stevens body was found by police in a parking lot in Dover, New York.
Conclusion: After the murders, Stevens Attorney who defendent him against incest charges stated no one ever could have predicted stevens actions and that he showed no indication of possibly turning to violence. Stevens two younger daughters have expressed not missing their father and that they and their mother Alyssa deeply resent everything about him.
