Just wondering what the music scene was like across the pond these day. Here in the UK we are just bombarded with fabricated, manufactured dross. Reality shows such as Xfactor are completely eroding the music industry over here. The Simon Cowell music machine has single handedly killed descent music. I know you guys have the American version of Xfactor so I wanted to know if its had the same affect over there. They just manufacture image conscious pretty boy/girl groups or stand alones with limited tallent who just crave fame and fortune with no real regard for music.

My favorite genre is predominantly metal and rock of all different flavors. However I still appreciate many other types of music if its interesting and unique. We were responsible for some of the best original rock/metal bands in the world. Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Def Leppard and the list goes on... You guys took it and sent it to a different level creating a whole mix of awesome hardcore rock/metal for every taste. Probably ninety percent of my music collection comes from american bands. There are some good lesser know British metal bands. But most British (not all before I am roasted over the coals) music is just lame and has no bollocks.

Like I said earlier. Just keen to know if you guys now suffer all this dross too, or are descent bands still able to break through into the mainstream.

It's very similar here, manufactured over-produced shit the record companies think people like. Thank god for rock/metal bands you mentioned, but in the US the radio stations don't have anything else better to play so they have these on a 24 hr loop. FM radio, to me, is a dead media. (if I hear Hotel California one more time) And I've pretty much given up on mainstream. Pandora does a good enough job of digging out some new artists here and there.

ha. i think this dross you're referring to came from us because it's been like that over here for at least the last decade. i ignore all that shit, though. good music is pretty easy to find if you know where to look

Stopped listening to mainstream shit in about 1982. There are lots and lots of very good bands/music outside the mainsteam pop crap.

Try out the Scandanavian Death/Black metal.
Cool I will check it out. Always on the lookout for something fresh

No,there will never be another musical movement like the southern rock 70, metal 80s,grunge and alternative 90s.The thing that made movements,MTV,turned out to be the very thing that ruined American music.Im sure there are some underground bands that seem like fresh air.But theres no rocket they can ride to be heard. Those days are gone.

Your not wrong there. I lived through the whole grunge thing and loved it also. Cracks me up as so many of my friends were not even born during this era and still dig it. I lost track of MTV at the beginning of the 90's so was unaware they successfully killed it.

That's the only way to be. Every once and again a good tune will come out, but its a one off.

I really just like a lot of individual and unique fresh sounding shit. Every now and then you get put onto something different which is great.

every now and then ill switch on the mtv hits channels that plays videos just out of to see what music is getting played.Granted I turn the channel pretty off pretty fast, but I have never turn on the mtv hits videos channel and have heard a guitar, drums from a guy playing drums instead of a machine,or even a bass line that is played on a bass instead of a machine. When you think about that and realize the people getting awards and reconition doesn't have one actuall instrument being played on there album is shocking

Its a shame that you can manufacture this kind of worthless shit in your bedroom now with just an everyday PC. These guys cant sing live for shit, so either lipsync to their backing track or sound abysmal. No live instruments anymore and the young kids pay up to £75 to see their idols jig around like performing monkeys singing songs they have never had any input in. So sad.

True, I agree with you, its all out there for the picking. However, I cant listen to that in my car or during the day when I worked. Just bombarded with shite on local and national radio.
