Blind spot awareness was the very first thing I mentioned to the examiner on my CDL road test right after pretrip inspection and engine start. Blind spots are VERY real. Big rig drivers cannot see up to 40% of what is around their vehicles due to the size of the rigs they are in. Even small cars can be trapped on the side blind spots of trucks.
