I find his failure to secure the boat irrelevant to the fact that he didn't notice it being dragged behind him. That's an entirely different level of stupid.
The boat weighs next to nothing (for a boat) you don't even need a trailer for it, any man could pick one up. So the only thing is the sound and in the video it's not making much noise so unless he looked behind him in the 30 seconds this video took place he would have not noticed.

All you can hear is the truck with the the camera. A boat like that dragging down the road is going to make some noise falling off the trailer and while being dragged. The driver should should have noticed when it came off the trailer.
