Believe it or not but there was a time when Mexico was saying to build the wall - to prevent Americans from flooding in. Mexico made the mistake in the early 1800's of inviting undocumented migrants from the US to settle the sparsely populated northern Mexican state, later known as Texas, simply to increase the population. But soon Americans outnumbered Mexicans and Texas declared itself independent, which lead to war, which lead to the US winning not only Texas but California, New Mexico, Arizona - bassically the whole US coastal West and South West. They clearly had need for a wall even back then...
I wonder if in 200-years, Canada will seek to build a wall to stop "filthy stinkin' scrounging" Americans from coming north...?Believe it or not but there was a time when Mexico was saying to build the wall - to prevent Americans from flooding in. All jokes aside tension between the US and Canada was extreemly high for the majority of the 19th century and well through to the 20th century, alot later than some may have thought.I wonder if in 200-years, Canada will seek to build a wall to stop "filthy stinkin' scrounging" Americans from coming north...?
Oh the irony.

I just love how the rebeling British American colonies used help from the French to get rid of the British in the War of Independence..... and now look at the global state of affairs: America and Britain are typically on good terms, while the USA hate the French. All jokes aside tension between the US and Canada was extreemly high for the majority of the 19th century and well through to the 20th century, alot later than some may have thought.
We all know the US invaded Canada in 1812 and then Canada invaded the US in response and burned Washington D.C. but the tensions did not end there. After World War I ended the US feared the British Empire was its biggest global threat. There were only two super powers after WWI - the US and the UK. Nazi Germany had yet to rise and the Soviet Union was very young and weak.
In 1930 the US government created a secret plan, called War Plan Red which outlined how the US would fight a world war with the UK and its territories - including Canada, which was assumed would serve as the location of a full on British invasion and re-conquering of the United States.
The plan would remain on the books top secret until the 1970's when the UK was clearly no longer a threat as it had lost its Empire and thus its super power status by then.

I think we (the USA) actually just always hated the French. We hated them so much that we pretended to like them simply to take advantage of them, then when they had given us all they could we dumped them - and went back to the UK. Like a love triangle, but where one boyfriend is just being used and the girl is only in love with the guy she tells the other one not to worry about.I just love how the rebeling British American colonies used help from the French to get rid of the British in the War of Independence..... and now look at the global state of affairs: America and Britain are typically on good terms, while the USA hate the French.
The world turns, and shit gets crazier.
I think Sir Humphrey Appleby, from the 80's British TV series "Yes, Minister" says it best: the UK went into the European Community to do one thing - to screw the French...I think we (the USA) actually just always hated the French.
