Have You (or a loved one) Ever Undergone Electroconvulsive Therapy?

Growing up in the 90s my mom had severe depressive disorders and psychosis and eventually was given electroconvulsive therapy as a last resort. When I was a kid, I was told that she was getting a little shock that would help her feel better. She has since passed away, but when I look back, I remember that she was acting more normal immediately after treatments, but the benefits always faded away.

Has anyone here undergone this treatment recently or ever? How did it make you feel? Did your symptoms improve? What about experience with loved ones? What decade?

I have a patient (F 30ish)that went through that (I work in the dental field so unrealated to her getting shock therapy for severe depression). I've worked on her for hours at a time atleast 5 or 6 times in the past year and a half. She came in after not seeing her in 4 months and she has no memory of me whatsoever. It was like she was meeting me for the first time. She explained since her therapy, that unless someone is in her daily life, she can't recall people she's known for years. Sounds awful

My grandmother was shocked in her 20s which was in the 1940s. She said it was horrible and didn't help. She was depressed. She said she wouldn't wish it on anyone. She lived to be 98, but always remembered that with hate and anger.

what boy hasn't had fun like this...i know i did

a good party trick is to put a section of wire into the slot that's taller/bigger, and then into your mouth and fall on the floor convulsing

on a properly wired receptacle, you'll feel nothing, (but most don't know that)...on an improperly wired receptacle, you may be convulsing for real

my late grandma had shock therapy for a few years after the loss of her mother and resurfaced trauma. idk the extent of everything but she changed a lot following the shock appointments. before she was pretty much unresponsive and a husk of the person she used to be so it was nice to see her benefit from it. i believe she would have it like a couple times a week

Knew a chic who had it done.
She couldn't remember things , nearly burnt the house down while cooking.
Barely remembered people, she had to go to a skills program to start life over.
She couldn't recall good or bad things or even have a typical conversation.
She did require a lot of help, mentally, emotionally and your average day to day routine.
The docs eventually stopped the therapy.
She went back to meds, last heard she was doing better.

Sounds like running fdisk on someone's brain and filling the partitions with random numbers, potatoes and rainbows

My first wife had them twice; once when we were still married and once after. Both times results as you posted. Brain/thinking was completely fucked, then gradually normalized, giving hope but inexorably slipping black Into dementia the first time. After divorce and second treatment she was sane enough to live reasonably normal life.
