There are so many leaders in history who have done terrible things and I find it funny that Hitler and Stalin seem to be the only two ever mentioned nowadays by 99% of people.

The leader of Romania during the cold war was Nicolae Ceausescu, and he did some really funny shit too. Besides machine-gunning peasants during forced-collectivization, in 1967 he also banned abortion and made condoms and other contraceptives illegal in an attempt to boost the population of Romania. One of the most hillarious episodes of European history thus ensued. Babies were litterally appearing everywhere they didn't belong - park benches, doorsteps of government buildings, clogging sewer pipes, and of course the orphanages - which were so overcrowded that many of the babies died from neglect due to insufficient staff to care for them.

But the funniest thing was precisely 20 years later, this generation of unwanted babies, now grown up, formed the central group of criminals and social outcasts that lead the political riots that overthrew the government. They marched Ceausescu and his wife behind a building and shot them both dead.

I highly recommend people read the history of Romania post-WWII, under the rule of Ceausescu, it's very entertaining. Or if you don't feel like reading, watch the movie "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days"
