Incandescent light bulb ban end of july (one week from now)

I don't understand these laws. Title 27 (I think that's the #) in California created a whole laundry list of lighting requirements - a business I worked at renovated and had to get the new lights on one of the floors. The lighting was so radically different it created major distractions and fucked up workflow. Keep yer greasy paws off mah bulbz.

Thats crazy, you can just use halogen bulbs instead, same thing except they have a bit of halogen gas inside, they lasts twice as long as incandescent, you're basically the crappest prepper ever.

This is more you Jizz, poem by Roger Mcgough, an old Mersey poet.

Let me die a youngman's death
not a clean and inbetween
the sheets holywater death
not a famous-last-words
peaceful out of breath death

When I'm 73
and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
on my way home
from an allnight party

Or when I'm 91
with silver hair
and sitting in a barber's chair
may rival gangsters
with hamfisted tommyguns burst in
and give me a short back and insides

Or when I'm 104
and banned from the Cavern
may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one

Let me die a youngman's death
not a free from sin tiptoe in
candle wax and waning death
not a curtains drawn by angels borne
'what a nice way to go' death
I love the poem.
It's somehow quite moving.

how about candles and coal, am sure they will be illegal soon
heating system in my first house was natural gas converted from coal (same boiler)...there were pieces of coal still all over the basement
I've never cared for led. Incandescent is better on the eyes, It also provides a better light quality than led. Also battery operated incandescent lights are more efficient.
Technology(Tech NO Logic)

Also, I don't like to be LED.
all true, gotta remember "I don't like to be LED"
Environmentalist wackos never give up. My HVAC tech told me they are already pushing to eliminate the 410 refrigerant and the one they want everyone to use is flammable. There is no abomination under God's sun than is more detestable than a stupid person who thinks they are smart,
R-12 (original freon) cooled the best, was low pressure, and just all around better for its intent. I never cared about any hole in the Ozone Layer, or whatever they were complaining about back then. I just remember the air conditioning in my 1986 Celebrity was the best, even on the hottest days.
As they use 6-7x the power to do the same job, and last about 1/20th the time, I think it may well be the single best thing GWB did in his illustrious career.

They are basically heaters that give off some light along the way...
Well, I don't like change forced upon me, especially inside my own home. But you bring up a good point...perhaps in future I (or my grandkids) can sell this from a booth at the County Fair, or even online in some future ebay deal. Just imagine, little heater novelty lamps...I know I'd buy them.

Exactly, these morons keep on changing things for no good reason. First coal was the bogeyman, then oil, now natural gas and propane...they can go fuck themselves, just leave me alone.
i kinda like having bright light where needed so led for the win but in living room we use color change and found the light yellow hue makes it very soft to the eyes

^ get this instead

Yeah, I read all about their supposed benefits too, but I never liked the halogen bulb equivalents (72 for 100, 53 for 75, 43 for 60, 29 for 40), as their color was different. Besides, that's the beginning of the slippery slope.

I'm not a prepper at all, just want to ensure my home is lit the way I want it to be lit till the end.

they make LED bulbs to shine like a soft white bulb,as well as many colors. not just their "one million candle", light bulb.
not so bright,are ya.

"you can no longer buy lower wattage bulbs. you need to buy higher wattage bulbs. and we will also be banning dimmer switches soon too."
- the u.s govt.

One thing I've learned is if the gov't is pushing something, it's probably not going to help me...but may harm me.

To clarify, I'm not against the new LED lighting standards in general. I think they're beneficial in public infrastructure, public buildings, hospital, schools, and businesses.

However, I want choice in my home, and authorities should have made an exemption for private homes.

I would even have been okay with the Tier One restrictions that @Dolly was referencing, and would have compromised and used the halogen replacements...72w, 53w, 43w, 29w, which would have been perfect.

I'm want choice with how I light my home...who can argue with freedom of choice?

Now to shine a spot light for a moment on the Man who started it all. Even though he electrocuted Topsy the Elephant, simply to try to prove his DC was superior to a rival's AC, he still helped light up our world.

^ Thomas Alva Edison, inventor of the light bulb.

Also, on a final note, his original lab is in The Henry Ford / Greenwich Village in Dearborn, MI. Apparently, HF went around America and consolidated its best pieces back to Dearborn. Orville and Wilbur Wright's original bicycle shop is there, as well.

I went there several years ago and I highly recommend it everyone, but especially men...super interesting stuff.

ever notice though hedge, that the fixtures are already being sold for led. so if your fixture goes, you will have all these spare bulbs!
unless you also have spare fixtures.

Yes i've noticed that. I'm sure the ultimate plan is to make new fixtures incompatible with old bulbs...to render them obsolete.

But you know i've thought of that too! I actually do have spares, besides being able to repair almost anything.

Only recently, i bought a Speed Queen washer, and although the gov't now mandates top loader washing machines only filling half-way, I took mine apart and voila!, mine fills up to the top now, as they used to.

I live where it rains a lot, but wouldn't care much about water conservation anyway. I do what's best for me and my own.

The real problem is extreme overpopulation, but that's not going to be effectively dealt with for a long time.

Those stupid LED pieces of shit take ten minutes to get bright. They're fucking stupid and expensive. While I'm on this topic here, I'd also like to add my annoyance over the banning of plastic bags at supermarkets, they changed them over to paper that rips easy and doesn't hold more than three items, I plan to import a few boxes of plastic shopping bags, plastic drinking straws and plastic forks , (so my take-out doesn't taste like wood from this new fandangle wooden fork bullshit) from China so I don't have to conform to all this fuckery.

LEDs get full bright instantly, you may be thinking about those curly CFL (compact fluorescent lights)...now those really are stupid and seem to be fading away

the plastic ban is stupid and annoying, but i've done nothing about that...now i just carry my purchases to the car

i'm mainly against gov't shitheads forcing change in my home, so i adapt to this world outside my house

I'm by no means an eco mentalist but I am kind of frugal when it comes to saving money spent on energy. I have motion sensors on things like the garage & shop lights, timers on the outdoor lights, smart thermostats. I bought my first LED bulbs about 20 years ago and they were garbage. Low output, dodgy circuity that caused feedback to other electronics but anything made by decent manufactures like Philips in the past 5 years shouldn't are IMO a good alternative for incandescent bulbs. You can get bulbs that dim, don't cause any feedback, have no flicker and get a color temperature that fits the requirements (i.e. cool for functional or task lighting, warm for situational lighting).

In my true OCD fashion I have a spreadsheet of all the lightbulbs in the house, almost all have been converted to LED, the actual wattage, the incandescent equivalent wattage, color temperature, base, size, etc. Yes I appreciate I'm a mental patient at times.

remember way back when, the paper bags were bigger and thicker? could fill them puppies up and not a problem. even manhandle the top corners and carry two with one hand, and still no rippage!
now like you said, cheap fucking useless shit. and if theyre gunna make them so shitty and cheap, why even bother? oh yea,so the super markets can charge you 10 cents per bag if you need one.

it's good to be data driven, but this is a quirk and my line in the sand...no one is taking my light bulbs away
ps--you can have my light bulbs when you pry them from my cold, dead hands!
