On a Fulci kick on Shudder lately. Just discovered this fantastic director.
City of the Dead 1980 - 5/10
Great gore, fantastic music and a surreal dreamlike quality to the plot.
I highly recommend these films for people who like campy gore and violence.

The Draughtsman's Contract. 1982
7/10
A draughtsman draws a series of pictures with an unusual contract.
Set in the late 16th century in high society, it follows a artist as he does a series of drawings around a country estate. The film mainly deals with the drawings and the lady of the house with who he is fucking as part of the contract. There are long scenes involving the other characters as well. The language is very well spoken english. The film is slow but engaging and there is interesting set of circumstances that wind it up nicely.

The Joy Of Torture 2. Oxen split torturing. 1976 Japan.
7/10
Two different stories in a 80min film, the first is the killing of christians in more extreme ways to please the local judge, the 2nd is a con-man and another whore. They eventually run off together but get caught and a tortured.
I read about this film years ago and it was noted just how sadistic it is. It's very similar to Orgies of Edo and Inferno of torture. A simple storyline with the main focus being alot of practical torture and executions. Even thou i knew what i was in for the film, like the others i mentioned was still pretty intense. It could be said it's a waste of time, but these films were made for a Japanese audience.

There is no trailer. I took a series of snapshots from the film to give an idea.
1. Bloke roasted alive. 2. Bloke slashed in fight, shot with arrows. 3. Woman ripped apart by oxen. 4. Old woman doing forced abortion.
5. Bloke in stock has head sawn off.

Joy of torture. 1968. Japan.
4/10
Three different stories in a 90min film.
A brother/sister involved in incest, a convent of nuns and rouge priest, a tattooist creates the perfect tattoo.
Light on the graphic violence compared to the second film and not a lot more in the storyline of any of the episodes.
There is degree of violence in the last one where the tattooist is having a bunch of women tortured to get the perfect look, but it nots as full on as anything in the second film. Started clicking thru at the 56min mark.
No trailer.
