January 25, 2026An armed ambush targeting the convoy of Shariff Aguak Mayor Akmad Mitra Ampatuan erupted into deadly violence on the morning of Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Maguindanao del Sur. At around 6:30 a.m. in Barangay Poblacion, Datu Unsay, armed men opened fire and reportedly used an RPG against the mayor’s convoy. Ampatuan was inside a black, bulletproof SUV at the time. His backup vehicle, a pickup truck, was also hit by gunfire. Mayor Ampatuan and his companions survived the attack, though some sustained injuries, including wounds to the left side of the abdomen. Two security escorts suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were rushed to the Bangsamoro Regional Medical Center. All victims are reported to be in stable condition. Police identified the attackers as riding in a white mini-van.
Joint forces of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army immediately launched a hot pursuit operation, which led to an armed encounter in Barangay Meta, Datu Unsay. The brief firefight resulted in the deaths of three to four suspects, including the driver of the mini-van. Authorities recovered several high-powered firearms from the vehicle. The Police Regional Office–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) confirmed the incident and said an in-depth investigation is underway to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the attack. Security measures in the area have been heightened. Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Hadji Oping Ampatuan released CCTV footage of the ambush. Adding context to the incident, Col. Harold Cabunoc noted that the reported use of an RPG is highly unusual in clan-related armed conflicts (rido) in Maguindanao, where an unwritten rule traditionally prohibits the actual use of rocket propelled grenades, allowing them only for intimidation.

I'm going to guess between two things that always happens there. Either the Chinese are starting to get big in the britches and that Mayor was a CCP backed cocksucker, or the Muslims in the south are peacefully protesting again just like they do I nthe western world. It's usually one of the two.
