I've no idea what that object is either. At first it does look like the hilt and pommel of a short dagger but Indo-Persian/Arabic/Turkish daggers were almost always rounded to a large degree - not squared to 4 sides.This item is strange, can't recognize:

Whatever it is, it really doesn't seem to quite fit into his upper shirt sleeve pocket (unless it was placed there after he was dead) and a bladed weapon wouldn't be kept there anyways.
