I haven’t been on a motorcycle in 20 years. They have definitely become incredibly fast. The motorcycle that I thought was fast way back then, is slow by today’s standards.
In the spring, I bought a Yamaha R1. This monster is literally A jet airplane that does not fly. I put about 500 miles on it during the summer being really careful. I started to get really good. It felt like a part of me in the turns I’ve just enjoyed the summer with it. It really brought a smile to my face.
I have all the fancy leather equipment, the jacket with the spine protector gloves, racing boots, Shoei helmet the works. I know what you’re thinking. I went too fast in a turn or did something stupid and got into a really bad accident.
I’m not more than 5 miles from my house sitting at a traffic light. A 17-year-old girl on her phone slammed into me. Luckily, the speed limit was only 30 and I think she was only doing about 20 when she hit me. I came up on the hood. My helmet hit her windshield and smashed it. I was also on my back. I didn’t really get very hurt from it just a little bit sore and a few small bruises. The leather has some deep gashes on it from the window and I’m sure the helmet probably is not reusable. from the impact,
I’m on the ground near where the bike was, and she pushed the motorcycle all the way into the intersection. An 18 wheeler and a few cars ended up running it over. It is definitely totaled.
I think this time I am not going get any more motorcycles. I was just trying to feel young, and have a little fun. I enjoy my sports car, but it is just not the same. I definitely understand the thrill of a motorcycle but I am way too scared to get on a new bike.
