CHARLOTTE, NC — A Charlotte police officer with 20 years on the force has been arrested, charged with lying on his time sheets at least 19 times, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
According to CMPD, the incidents occurred between July 2018 and March 2019.
CMPD Officer Todd Beltrone was charged with one count of obtaining property by false pretenses, which is a felony, CMPD said. Beltrone, who has been placed on unpaid administrative leave, was assigned as a patrol officer in the South Division and has been employed by CMPD for two decades.
"Last month, his chain of command found irregularities in Officer Beltrone's on-duty time reporting," and the department launched both internal and criminal investigations, CMPD said in a statement Friday. "Evidence and information gathered during the investigation indicated that Officer Beltrone consistently falsified his time sheet by indicating he was present at work."
CMPD said the investigation into the incidents continues to be ongoing and more charges may be forthcoming.
