He was born in San Francisco, CA & was born an American citizen, not a Chinese citizen, lived in British controlled Hong Kong, then I think Seattle. Almost all the recordings featuring him are owned by Americans. The Chinese never pushed him being a pop icon to bridge gaps on perception of them & martial arts, Americans did.
