@Dirl
This is in response to you ignorantly equating Saddam’s Iraq and ho chi Minh’s vietnam.
Here’s why the Comparison of Saddam and the Baathists with Ho Chi Minh and North Vietnam is ridiculous and false and idiotic and insulting to the Vietnamese ok.
First I have to say why the Saddam regime did not have sovereignty and the international law that says that’s so.
Regime that do these four things are outlaw states and how Saddam’s Iraq violated these things
A. Invade the territory and neighbors to annex their land. Done TWICE by Saddam. First in 1980 in Iran setting off a ten year war that was one of the worst of the 20th century:
Iran–Iraq War - Wikipedia
Second in the gulf war which I don’t need to tell you about. People say, ignorantly, that Saddam invaded Kuwait. No he didn’t, he occupied and ANNEXED Kuwait. Declared a sovereign country to be another province of Iraq. Saddam did both of these things and had no intention to stop invading its neighbors btw.
B. Genocide, signatory’s to the UN treaty on genocide, which the USA is, are mandating to act to prevent or punish genocide. Saddam attempted a genocide of the Kurds in Iraq:
https://www.europarl.europa.eu/meet..._/03_kurdishgenocidesofanfalandhalabja_en.pdf
As well as the Marsh Arabs:
The Iraqi Government Assault on the Marsh Arabs (A Human Rights Watch Background Paper, January 2003)
The ONLY REASON these massacres were not completed is because of public outcry in the USA, UK, and France that led to their militaries putting no fly zones over parts of Iraq to protect these minorities. Btw that no fly zone was no instituted by the UN.
C. Dealing in illegal weapons. Saddam not only dealt in them but USED them in the above examples.
See the David Kay report and the “bomb in my garden” for more on Saddam and WMD.
D. Arming, funding, supporting international terrorist groups. Saddam did this all over the world, again and again. He stoped paying the PLO and started helping the suicide bombing jihadists in Palestine for example. People like this man:
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi - Wikipedia
Were let into Iraq BEFORE WE GOT THERE, and after 9/11, by Saddam. There are countless examples that go back decades of Saddam supporting groups like this. One of the perpetrators of the World Trade Center bombing in the 90s. The one that’s often forgotten, he fled to Iraq and was sheltered by Saddam.
Saddam did all these things multiple times and hand every intention to go on doing so. The Vietnamese communist did none of these things. In fact sometimes they did the opposite. For example Vietnam sent their military into Cambodia and stopped a genocide. Not did one, STOPPED ONE.
Cambodian–Vietnamese War - Wikipedia
They weren’t dealing in WMD, they weren’t annexing other people’s territory. Ho Chi Minh was a genuine nationalist leader. Saddam was former police enforcer, a thug and goon who took over in a purge.
These people, these regimes are just not to be equated Dirl. It’s done very commonly by people who know nothing about Iraq, I did it myself back when I didn’t know what I was talking about. But if you actually look at the reality, they aren’t to equated. STOP DOING THAT.
ALSO, the “insurgents”, the jihadists in Iraq were fighting against a democratically elected government and fighting to destroy Iraq. They don’t recognize Iraq as a country, they think it should all be part of an Islamic empire, the caliphate, that they lost in 1918z The Vietcong were fighting for Vietnam and against people who were destroying it, mainly from the air, us, the USA.
I could go on dirl don’t doubt me, but I hope you are beginning to see why it’s ridiculous to equate the two wars, regimes, countries, “insurgents”, ok
