I’m a security Gaurd and I can tell you letting her go with the stock is not saving money is it ? Explain? If they let her just walk away with stock the store looses the stock and because she found it easy to steal unchallenged she will return likely with friends. So why would it be good idea to let her go please explain?

Do you know how much it cost a store to prosecute a shoplifter? A lot. Whatever they attempt to steal is already a total loss. Then the employee or employees who try to stop them are not doing their job while trying to stop the shoplifter so that productivity loss. Then spend time cleaning up the mess that was made. Then the employee who witnessed them steal has to be in court all day when their trial comes up. The store has to pay the employee an entire days wage for the employee to do that.
Stopping that theft cost about $400-500 when they could have let them go and it only cost the company $20-$30.
The best way is prevention or to stop them in the act. Once they make it to the door, especially if they want to fight you for it, it cost too much to recover it or risk it. This is for grocery stores tho.

The only savings a store can have is deterrence. What you recover isn't sold by the store because it's cheaper to throw it away then process it. Plus anything baby related is illegal to sell again once it has left the store.

Not true in uk many times people have pushed shopping trollys ect out store out store and I’ve recovered and it’s just been put back on shelf. Why would they throw perfectly fine stock out because it’s left the store by a couple metres? Only way they would waste is if chilled products have been out more that 20 mins or food products opened. And if packaging is damaged on other items it’s just reduced.

Because stores feel it's best not to take chances when products have been handled by criminals. They just don't want to take a risk that could cost them millions if someone were to get sick or find something hidden in the food like drugs. The US also throws away more food than the entire world combined. Landfills are 70% discarded food.

Supermarkets don’t throw recovered stock out recovered from theft unless it’s damaged or if it’s frozen if it’s been out of freezer more that 20 minutes or damaged packaging. I’m a security officer I recover and prevent thefts everyday

It’s crazy there are Romanian gangs all around uk and our store and many others get hit at least once a week by Romanians they cross county and target store after store in each town then drive to next town stealing thousands in each store example they fill a trolly with spirits or washing detergents and push out then do next store in area and move on then by end of day they might have an easy 10k in stolen stock
